  1. Dre73 scored this whisky 79 points Connoisseur

The nose is already pretty rich for just spirit. In taste the alcohol overpowers other tastes already a little, in the finish the taste of alcohol really gets overwhelming.
So, well, pretty promising stuff, it really has some good potential, definately.
    • Nose
      83 83
Fruity and light, citrus, grassy and floral, burnt nuts. Alcohol surprisingly light for this 63,5%, although after some while it's getting more and more prominent.
    • Taste
      79 79
It starts pretty gentle and friendly, then it's comes in pretty hard. Clearly some pure alcohol, pickering and bitter. But also some sweet fruity notes, peach, herbal, some caramel too. Later on caramel comes in more and more.
    • Finish
      76 76
Now pretty much bitter alcohol, it numbs the tongue a little, with a light taste of drop or licorice. Not very long, only the alcohol goes on pretty long.

    simple, easy
    did not like it
for me there is hardly any real potential
    • Nose
a koi note, slightly banana, sweetness, young malt, mini vanilla

with water: slightly nutty, a little vanilla, grain
    • Taste
      oily, strong with a thump
chemical (plastic / solvent), a lot of malt (young), sweet, the alcohol can be clearly felt at 63.5%

with water: softer, grain, slightly rubber, slightly earthy
    • Finish
      long
Paper / cardboard, light oak, mini blackberry, sweet becomes tart, slightly spicy

      with water: only bitter

    • Nose
      80 80
Surprisingly sweet, dusty, like a 1-2 yo spirit. Horseradish, but not too much. Cereals and screw loosener.
    • Taste
      81 81
Sweet notes and horseradish come together but keeping in the mouth brings sweetness a bit more dominant. Wheat flakes, horseradish, ginger, some spice and silky.

    Smells fruity and quite aromatic.
I even associate some grain and oak.

Tasty as a fruit schnapps, not sweet, rather spicy.

    It's perfectly alright.
I'm curious if something is stored ...

Is it a lowland thing because this to me tasted very similar to this unpeated new make by Annandale, it was almost identical, basically very fruity, creamy with some coconut in the mix so I will have to give it the same score of 74.

Enthusiasm 3/5 (4/5 for the mouth, with addition of water) "Whiskey" n ° 1776
    • Nose
It looks pretty fat. We have discrete fruits, such as pear. Everything is a little direct, necessarily, with vegetal notes. The addition of water gives it sweetness.
    • Taste
Wouch, it's hot! With an interesting vegetal / fruity duo. With a (big) addition of water, it becomes very pleasant to drink, the texture becomes creamy and soft. I swear I felt honeyed notes.
    • Finish
A little hot too. With water, short and spicy.

  17. KayMeertens did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Sweet and fruity, like kruškovac (plum liquor). I'm not scoring this one as I don't have sensible references and it makes no sense for me to compare it to a scale of matured whiskies. I wouldn't buy something like this for own consumption, but it's probably a spirit with a lot of potential.

  18. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 75 points Connoisseur

a new make that is fun. Amazingly tart and "ripe".
    • Nose
New make, fruity, raspberries, slightly sour fresh (citrus), a certain spicy touch, some pepper, if you put E150 there, you could indeed think, there was already a bit of barrel in the game. Even more raspberry, apple, but also a hint of gum.
    • Taste
strong, fruity, slightly sour refreshing, then a good dose of bitterness, pepper and alcohol, some juniper. With water already somehow ripe, the fruit flavors are well connected with the bitterness. Very pleasant.
    • Finish
Tart, warm, slightly sour, fruity and a peppery aftertaste.

  19. ASWhisky did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

amazingly good and flavorful let's hope it goes on like this
    • Nose
standing in the glass without movement
sweetish, very oily, very mild, almond note, floral sweetish notes, slightly grassy, fresh, in the background a hint of an alcohol note, violets in nutmeg
      after a while with exercise
there he is a bit stingy with a slight alcoholic note - but had presented it to me worse, now also much fruity, young yellow-green apricot Now the schnapps feeling is much clearer
    • Taste
soft oily onset delicious fruity mild apricot liqueur with lots of nutmeg like schnapps in a praline
    • Finish
Nutty fruity apricot schnapps relatively long

  20. Archer scored this whisky 78 points Connoisseur

Well, he can do something as a new make, there are a few very nice flavors to discover. If this then continues in the barrel ... Promising.
    • Nose
Undiluted: Pleasant, not pungent or alcoholic. Mirabelle brandy or Williams is on the rise. Sweet wine gum to it. With water: now he stands out a little. Interesting. The aromas remain so far, but with water overall less intense and fruity. With a few more drops of water, the stinging disappears again (no, the pipette was not left in the glass).
    • Taste
Dry at the beginning with mirabelle taste and a little banana. One could almost think that there was wood in the game, so dry comes the over. Chocolate and a nice touch of coffee now pass, maybe a hint of toffee. The mirabelle plums are still there, but it's also pretty dry.
    • Finish
Chocolate and still the idea of a nice apricot schnapps - pleasantly fruity.

It's a very nice start for a new Lowlands distiller.
    Wait for the others.
    • Nose
      Sweet and surprisingly fruity.
      Especially raspberry and strawberry. Metals.
    • Taste
Sweet and dry. Mixed fruit jams, metals, spices.
      Similar to hungarian palinka.
    • Finish
      Long, sweet, slightly alcoholic

  22. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Not bad (better than some German 3 Series), you can drink quite virgin, as whiskey all the more promising, because I'm looking forward to it. And the 0.2 sample bottle is fairly priced at ~ 15 € at 63.5%, because you can put more coal into the sand elsewhere, both absolutely and relatively.
    • Nose
pure: yeasty-sweet, sugar ... reminiscent of Rührkuchenteig (surprisingly little pungent).
with water dissolve fruity notes, pear, banana, pineapple, a little grassy, in the background but doughy sweetness, even slightly earthy
    • Taste
sweet and crunchy, malt, cereals, and also the Rührkuchenteig is here, the alcohol stands out here a little more, even with water, slightly metallic, the fruit notes go down to me something sweet, so over-ripe apples-pears and bananas Sugar porridge with a little cinnamon
    • Finish
long, the stronger the pepper, banana porridge with some lime and brown candy

Tried at Whiskylive 2016, a few months before a visit to the distillery:

N: Solid grain base, cereal led and fruity, hinting at peaches and wild strawberries.
T: Copper heavy and fiery - yikes! The cereal notes return into the finish but that metallic note [neat or otherwise] is off-putting to put it mildly.
F: Concludes with fruit cereal bars with more of that delicious peach.
C: Nose and finish are all in order. Its the arrival that needs ‘fixing’, with oak - which is the whole point.

    At the distillery:

C: Today I noted the fruitiness, a soft berry fruitiness with coppery raisins coming off the palate. Fab spirit.

    Strawberry candy

Kingsbarns is the new distillery opened by independent bottler Wemyss. As they have only put their first casks to sleep in December 2014, we will need to be patient until 2018 before we can try their first whisky. Their spirit, however, is already commercially available. While technically in the Highlands, about 6 kilometers from the famous golf links of St Andrews, they call themselves a Lowland distillery.

The nose is dry and sweet. Think strawberry candy and violets (the flowers, not the purple candy). Quite creamy, despite the fact that it is dry. You follow? Not one off-note, which is nice. Good nose. Adding water makes it lean towards more classic new make notes like cooked vegetables and yeast. I quite like it.

Scorching hot on the palate, of course. My tongue is on fire. Yet it is quaffable, certainly from the second sip. Sweet on candy-like notes, but also some aniseed and pepper. Pretty floral, actually. It becomes a lot less scorching with some water, but then allows more earthy notes to shine through.

Fairly long finish on spicy touches with something green in the mix, if you know what I mean. Diluted there hardly remains any finish.

Beautiful spirit that will result, I think, in a soft aperitif style whisky. A bottle of 20cl will set you back around 18 EUR.

Wow - what an impressive New Make this is! Extremely floral and
fruity with a delicate taste and long finish. I can't wait to taste this
beauty once it has been matured for several years in fine oak casks.

I thank Joe Seidel from Joe's Malt Shop for the sample!

    • Nose
Very fruity on the nose. Nicely pleasant and slightly floral with the
alcohol not being pungent at all. Smells like a lovely schnaps (either
from Germany, Austria or South Tyrol) made from cherries or raspberries.
    • Taste
Sweet and fruity with lots of berries, raspberries, and brumbles. The
alcohol is present and nicely warming with beautiful floral notes.
    • Finish
The finish is long and warm with delicate golden barley notes.

      WITH
WATER: There's even more fruit on the nose with a splash of water. Very
delicate on the palate with the alcohol nicely tingling on the tongue.
The finish is long, warm and lovely sweet with more barley coming
      through.

Very nice example of new make. Of course you can't compare and score this with whisky. But it's nice to see where the maturation of whisky starts. I found this dram quite nice, much better than most other spirits (gin, vodka).
    • Nose
A bit of caramel, cheese, metallic, but also fresh dough, cereals, bread, green herbs (mainly mint) and fruits: fresh lemon and toffeed apple.
    • Taste
Hot and sweet, a bit metallic and yeasty (as expected and there is nothing wrong with that in new make). Fresh buns from the oven with sweet jam and cinnamon topping.
    • Finish
Pungent, a tad grassy and fruity.
