Well, he can do something as a new make, there are a few very nice flavors to discover. If this then continues in the barrel ... Promising.
    • Nose
Undiluted: Pleasant, not pungent or alcoholic. Mirabelle brandy or Williams is on the rise. Sweet wine gum to it. With water: now he stands out a little. Interesting. The aromas remain so far, but with water overall less intense and fruity. With a few more drops of water, the stinging disappears again (no, the pipette was not left in the glass).
    • Taste
Dry at the beginning with mirabelle taste and a little banana. One could almost think that there was wood in the game, so dry comes the over. Chocolate and a nice touch of coffee now pass, maybe a hint of toffee. The mirabelle plums are still there, but it's also pretty dry.
    • Finish
Chocolate and still the idea of a nice apricot schnapps - pleasantly fruity.

amazingly good and flavorful let's hope it goes on like this
    • Nose
standing in the glass without movement
sweetish, very oily, very mild, almond note, floral sweetish notes, slightly grassy, fresh, in the background a hint of an alcohol note, violets in nutmeg
      after a while with exercise
there he is a bit stingy with a slight alcoholic note - but had presented it to me worse, now also much fruity, young yellow-green apricot Now the schnapps feeling is much clearer
    • Taste
soft oily onset delicious fruity mild apricot liqueur with lots of nutmeg like schnapps in a praline
    • Finish
Nutty fruity apricot schnapps relatively long

It's a very nice start for a new Lowlands distiller.
    Wait for the others.
    • Nose
      Sweet and surprisingly fruity.
      Especially raspberry and strawberry. Metals.
    • Taste
Sweet and dry. Mixed fruit jams, metals, spices.
      Similar to hungarian palinka.
    • Finish
      Long, sweet, slightly alcoholic

Tried at Whiskylive 2016, a few months before a visit to the distillery:

N: Solid grain base, cereal led and fruity, hinting at peaches and wild strawberries.
T: Copper heavy and fiery - yikes! The cereal notes return into the finish but that metallic note [neat or otherwise] is off-putting to put it mildly.
F: Concludes with fruit cereal bars with more of that delicious peach.
C: Nose and finish are all in order. Its the arrival that needs ‘fixing’, with oak - which is the whole point.

    At the distillery:

C: Today I noted the fruitiness, a soft berry fruitiness with coppery raisins coming off the palate. Fab spirit.

    Strawberry candy

Kingsbarns is the new distillery opened by independent bottler Wemyss. As they have only put their first casks to sleep in December 2014, we will need to be patient until 2018 before we can try their first whisky. Their spirit, however, is already commercially available. While technically in the Highlands, about 6 kilometers from the famous golf links of St Andrews, they call themselves a Lowland distillery.

The nose is dry and sweet. Think strawberry candy and violets (the flowers, not the purple candy). Quite creamy, despite the fact that it is dry. You follow? Not one off-note, which is nice. Good nose. Adding water makes it lean towards more classic new make notes like cooked vegetables and yeast. I quite like it.

Scorching hot on the palate, of course. My tongue is on fire. Yet it is quaffable, certainly from the second sip. Sweet on candy-like notes, but also some aniseed and pepper. Pretty floral, actually. It becomes a lot less scorching with some water, but then allows more earthy notes to shine through.

Fairly long finish on spicy touches with something green in the mix, if you know what I mean. Diluted there hardly remains any finish.

Beautiful spirit that will result, I think, in a soft aperitif style whisky. A bottle of 20cl will set you back around 18 EUR.

Surprisingly sweet, dusty, like a 1-2 yo spirit. Horseradish, but not too much. Cereals and screw loosener.
    • Taste
      81 81
Sweet notes and horseradish come together but keeping in the mouth brings sweetness a bit more dominant. Wheat flakes, horseradish, ginger, some spice and silky.
