Whisky Reviews for Laphroaig Brodir

29 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 85.35 points

  1. Archer scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

    Blind, I could probably have tapped on a Bowmore Darkest here. For Laphroaig rather untypical, for lovers of sweet smoke but just right.
    • Nose
      Smoky and sweet. At the beginning you look for the Laphoaig - and do not find it at first. The otherwise phenolic nose is clearly suppressed by the Port Wood. Dark berries and raisins. The smoke is mild and disappears after a while. Sea salt, damp-loamy soil.
    • Taste
      On the tongue one recognizes the origin: phenolic, smoky, salty. Then come the dark berries from the nose, red grapes, raisins and figs, he glides into total sweetness. Fine-sour chocolate and oak spice press on the surface, slightly bitter herbs come.
    • Finish
      Long and dry.

    Very soft

  3. Malthead19 scored this whisky 80 points Expert Senior

    - a good NAS whisky with a lot of smoke,
    - unfortunately not as good as Batch 1, but something for it
    better than the BRODIR (2018, without batch information)
    - but unfortunately for the price
    disappointing (too little fruit flavors, much in the
    Smoke "suffocated")
    => don't get me wrong, I like smoke, but here
    the harmonious combination was missing
    • Nose
      heavy smoke, campfire, some fruit, herbs
    • Taste
      strong smoky appearance, lots of smoke aroma, ash, looks young and overloaded with smoke, oak, coal
    • Finish
      medium-long, strong finish;
      long very smoky aftertaste

  4. Calmar scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

    Brother-2 turned out to be more attractive than the first part, if in the aroma everything is more or less at the level of the first, then the taste / finish is much richer, denser, there is life, energy, with the same, rather poor, set of derivatives we managed to get a whole and original product.
    • Nose
      Open, dry, dried boards, peat, a bathhouse, charred branches, coal, the port's influence is almost not felt, something raisin-like in the background.
    • Taste
      Thick, saturated, tart oak, peat, smoke, sweet wine notes, berry compote, mountain ash, viburnum, ginger, sharp ash-metal shades
    • Finish
      Spicy, rather refreshing than warming, sweet peaty with sharp mineral-metallic notes, berry jam, mountain ash and wine notes, charred branches, charcoal.

    hmmm from the smoke OK, but he did not blow me away
    absolutely solid malt
    • Nose
      minimal smoke, leather, tobacco, sweet, heavy, slightly vanilla is more
      with water: Cola Haribobar, sweeter
    • Taste
      soft on the palate
      minimal smoke, sweet
    • Finish
      long, sticking to the tongue
      bitter, minimal smoke, so tart towards tobacco

    BRODIR Batch 2 - also an interesting and good malt - in the direct comparison with Batch 1 a bit gruff, less balanced.
    Young, intense, pleasant smoke flavors, liter bottle - but with about 95.00 € me too expensive!
    • Nose
      81 81
      Fruits, berries, harmonic smoke, sweetness, honey, herbs;
    • Taste
      82 82
      voluminous onset, smoky, fruity (berries, port wine (?)), salty, oily body, herbs, charcoal, ash, pepper, oak;
    • Finish
      80 80
      medium sweet finish; becoming increasingly dry; Salt, cold ashes;

  7. megabreit scored this whisky 82 points Expert Junior

    Nose: Light berry note, slightly damp leather, I miss the smoky and phenolic Laphroaignote
    Taste: some fruit, now the smoke is more present than in the nose. He is a bit too alcoholic for me
    Finish: Dry with a slight dusty note
    Conclusion: A rather average bottling. He is too unbalanced for me. My beloved Staubnote in the finish rips it out a bit.

    Laphroaig ‚Brodir batch #002‘ (48%, OB, Port Wood Finish, +/-2015): 70 Punkte

  10. ColdAesthetics scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

    Interesting notes that give the port a Laphi Sun, it somehow pleases.
    • Nose
      Sweet, smoke, which is well suppressed by the barrels first, then apple, berries, Laphroaig phenol comes out from behind then out
    • Taste
      Flowers, sweet, salt, creamy, honey, still salt, licorice, ginger and then also port and berries, but not too clear in my opinion, algae
    • Finish
      Long, phenol, charcoal, wood, bit of citrus
