A happy whisky. I am again reconciled to old Laphroaigs after the in my opinion unspeakable 32-year-old Laphroaig. Another great MoS bottling. 93 points
    • Nose
Very nice smoke. No blazing campfire where you almost have to cough, but pleasantly sweet smoke. Citrus acid and salty sea spray behind. Toffees. Caramel. Dental office. With the time always sweeter and always unwrauchiger. GummispĆ¼lhandschuhe. In summary, a wonderfully strong, smoky-sweet nose with delicate hints of lemons, that's nice!
    • Taste
Fantastic start. Smoke, sweetness and oak spice make the mouth shine. But a lot smokier than the nose would expect. Pleasantly peppery heat warms the mouth and burns off with vanilla, coconut, iodine and malt a true Flammfeuerwerk. Salt and citrus are still perceptible. dark chocolate beans.
    • Finish
Long and warm, yes almost sticky sweet, which I always liked in combination with smoke. The smoke floats forever in the mouth

  3. rottendon scored this whisky 93 points Connoisseur

It is somewhat reminiscent of the original bottling, but it is much stronger, as you would expect in a barrel size otherwise. Full, complex and well-balanced, he brings with it everything that an old Laphroaig needs to make you happy.
    • Nose
The smoke is pleasantly integrated into light, ripe citrus notes, sea flavors, some salt and classic bourbon notes in the form of darker caramel and panna cotta. Warms up the salty notes and caramel a little more effective.
    • Taste
There it is again, the liquid block malt that the older Laphroaigs love to bring. It starts almost gently and develops in the mouth to a powerful, warming and well-balanced dram. Something cestus notes are there, the oak is clearly noticeable, but it is not unpleasant. When heated, it is even more powerful and thickly fills the mouth. You think you can chew it.
    • Finish
Dark honey sweetness goes slowly, then the smoke and the oak share pleasantly sweet dry the finish. A little licorice gives some numbness to the cheeks. He warmed for a long time.

This is a top whisky. Powerful, intense with an outstanding balance
of malty sweetness, spicy flavours and maritime notes. It is typical
Laphroaig with full integration of the distillery character, perfectly
matured with less pungency. Oak isn't dominating too much here and the
peat one can expect from a Laphroaig is nicely present. A brilliant
Laphroaig, one of the best 25yo bottlings I've ever had from this

I thank Markus Siering for sharing a sample with me.

    • Nose
The nose starts off with a delicious malty sweetness and lingering
vanilla behind. Subsequently, peat smoke emerges along with Laphroaig
typical medicinal notes, but not that pungent, even gentle iodine, salt
and mineral tones with a touch of flintstone. Subtle fruit is coming
through, citrus, oranges, along with spicy tones of cloves and oak.
Powerful, bold, intense and exceedingly pleasant.
    • Taste
A very sweet start on the palate with citrus fruit, oranges, honey and
delicate vanilla. This is immediately overlain by warm and hot spice,
cracked black pepper, oak and glove, followed by gentle medicinal
flavours, iodine, seaweed, complemented by a crisp malty sweetness.
Overall there is lingering peat smoke. Extremely mouth-coating and
      prickling spice on the tongue.
    • Finish
Very long and warm with sticky dark honey on the tongue, luscious orange
and allspice, with maritime flavours in the end and peat smoke overall.
      Amazingly delicate.

WITH WATER: Fresh sea air, iodine, seaweed and
significantly less malty and fruity sweetness on the nose. The
sweetness, however, is still present on the palate with more prickling
spice and a long and warm finish with excellent peat smoke.
