Smell: Slightly fermented apple, pear, fine saltiness, algae, well balanced, li. Vanilla base, cherry in alcohol, well integrated smoke, sweetish undertone

Palate: oily on the palate, sweetish base tone again, according to bitter note, salty smoke again, peppery, dtl. more sherry than in the nose,

Colour: brightening copper red, medium water's edge, clear

Conclusion: The rest of a bottle that was open for almost two years - and this time has passed the contents practically without a trace! In the meantime, a still fairly priced and very entertaining standard that you should always have in the bar...

It is simply a terrific, very good single malt with a good price-performance ratio.
Really diverse - great Talisker to enjoy.
    • Nose
      Blackberries, raisins, grapes, sherry aromas, some smoke, spice, oak;
    • Taste
      oily, spicy, slightly hot starter, pepper, chilli, salt, berries, ripe fruits, dark chocolate, gentle smoke;
    • Finish
      long, warming, peppery, oily, flavor also in the aftertaste;

  5. Don Cassi scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Fruity-sweet and maritime on the nose. Behind it light chocolate aromas.

Oily in the mouth, but peppery and intense. In addition, the aromas are reflected from the nose.

In the finish, the oak is added, which expresses itself in notes of dark chocolate. A certain fruitiness always remains in the foreground.
    Length: 7/10

The smoke is wonderfully integrated and never plays itself in the foreground, great malt and is definitely bought later. Together with the Lagavulin the spearhead of the range, this one with the better PLV.

    Note 1-

  6. Danlow scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

Good whisky that everyone should have tried a whole bottle of (it develops). For me it is only just behind the Lagavulin DE. But you can get it for around 50 euros, which is an ingenious PLV for him. I haven't bought it yet because there is so much to discover in the whisky world. But if I had to or should buy a whisky for "only" 50 thalers more often, it would always be on the shortlist!

It's a Talisker 10 with a sweet layer that mutes the peat and pepper a bit. It's good but has a certain staleness though, as if the Amoroso didn't had the time to fully integrate with the spirit.
    • Nose
      87 87
Mild peat smoke with a sweet fruiteness (yellow raisins, peach) and caramel. Some bell peppers and sea breeze complete this nice nose.
    • Taste
      86 86
Sweeter peat with honey. Oily mouthfeel with a muted Talisker chili catch followed by maritime saltiness and seaweed and the sweet yellow fruits from the nose.
    • Finish
      84 84
Lighter and a dry kind of peat smoke now. Some citrus fruits and honey melon. A bit unbalanced and stale though.

For its price probably the best talisker and I add one of the best "distillers edition".
An invariably valid purchase a million miles from the infamous supermarket editions which are a disgrace to the beautiful Isle of Skye.
    • Nose
A fruity nose, dominated by dried fruits, peppery and some red fruits which hover over the characteristic smoke of the brand.
    • Taste
A full body, tasty, very in line with the olfactory premises. The smoke and pepper are more subdued, which is not to say absent.
    • Finish
The finish recalls is moderately long, but in harmony with the palate.

These Talisker Distillers Editions always seem to deliver a steady quality whisky. The amoroso influence is really noticeable and ads complexity to the Talisker profile. Nice mixture of cherries, raspberries and sweet orange with chilipeper aromas next to seasalt and smoldering bonfire. Dangerously drinkable and comes at a nice price.

dry and yet fruity, smoke and spices
    • Taste

hot with a lot of sherry ... a clear Talisker and yet different due to the sherry finish. Insane taste
    • Finish

Nose is a maritime sweet bbq mix, palate is sweet and a bit one dimensional. Finish is medium short and ashy tart.
    • Nose
      87 87
Sweet, wine tart, maritime light salinity, tomato bbq sauce, little peat smoke
    • Taste
      85 85
Sugar sweet start, apple cider vinegar, smoke heat, a bit flat in flavor profile, slight oak spice
    • Finish
      85 85
Ashy now, sweetness leaves and the salinity and oak leave a dry tart finish

  14. Matthias80 scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

While sniffing, I find zests, cistrus aromas, of course it is smoky, if not excessive. I also find a salty note
The taste is sweet at first, and I also taste orange, plum, salt and light chocolate. The zest resigns.
The salt, plums and chocolate remain in the finish with me. The orange aromas come to the fore a little and in the end the smoke comes stronger.
Round and complex whisky. Very nice.

Not bad whisky, I would think about presence of bourbon casks but there are only ex-sherry casks according to the label information. Nose is a bit closed but the palate is quite sharp, minerally and oak-driven with a good overall balance. Quite simple and easy-going expression from Talisker. Nothing fancy but good peated all-rounder.
    • Nose
Smoke, fresh, some oak notes, green apples, some dried fruits, toffee, hint of vanilla, lemon zest. Water amplifies sherry notes.
    • Taste
Slightly sweet, peppery, nutmeg, minerally, charred oak, damp earth, some bitter notes (grapefruit zest)
    • Finish
Rather long, dry, a bit nutty, some maltiness, oak

  19. Issie did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    • Nose
directly aromatic campfire smoke, at the beginning also fruity and slightly sweet notes, these disappear over time and somehow become dark, old, slightly musty
    • Taste
again a light tingle, some smoke, a light sweetness and a few red fruits
    • Finish
      medium to long

Quite a very delicious and beautifully composed malt with a great sherry finish. Especially the nose and the taste show nice flavors. The departure, however, is somewhat powerless to me. Generally, you notice the 45.8% as good as not at all, but that would do good in some places.
    • Nose
The first impression is sweet, aromatic smoky (burned out campfire) and a hint of woody. There are over-ripe (almost fermented) strawberries and beautiful over-ripe bananas. Slightly grainy and a little rosehip. In between, a maritime saltiness rises quite easily in the nose. Bitter cocoa and fine raisin notes. Slightly chilling, the almost 45.8% you still notice as good as not. Some oak flavor.
    • Taste
Very tasty and very nice. Extremely creamy mouthfeel. First you taste a mix of smoked ham, nice subtle smoke, chocolate and cherry jam. Generally very sweet fruits. Fine and short pepperiness on the tip of the tongue. At the back, tender bittern notes become more present. Drying and mineral.
    • Finish
The finish is less intense and not nearly as long as expected. Sweetness shows up here as well, but bitter woody and light peat notes predominate, very dry with bitter almonds and dark cocoa.

This was not quite what I am used to from a Talisker DE. Somewhat sharp/rough & finish had little complexity which did not improve over the course of 1-2 years.

I like him. First the great mango sweetness, then the sherry notes, the chili-catch and above all the charcoal smoke - beautiful composition.
    • Nose
maritime, clear and fresh, cucumber, smoke from charcoal fire, seaweed on the beach, lemon, orange, pepper, honey, chocolate, grapes
    • Taste
first really sweet, oily, creamy, mango, apricot, honey, then dark chocolate, lots of orange, raspberries, the smoke hits, chilli !!, roasted hazelnuts, algae, mocha
    • Finish
he was just here! Relatively short, except for the smoke - orange, mocha, smoke, chili, the smoke remains the longest ...

  27. Goethe scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

The peppery-amoroso one "made by the sea"! This batch has in my opinion some PX notes compared with others side by side. Therefore there is a rich fruity component outdoing other batches.

    Concerning price/performance ratio: 9/10
    • Nose
Sweet sherried smoke. Fruits, walnuts, dried fruits, vanilla, sherry (some PX association going on here), apples.
    • Taste
BBQ, pepper, chili, dark chocolate, sherry (like PX!). Great texture.
    • Finish
Long. Chili, dark chocolate, plums, salt.

    Orange Peel

The Distillers Editions from Diageo are fairly popular. The appear approximately on a yearly basis and it always concerns a classic from their stables that is double matured. In this case a Talisker that got a second maturation on an Amoroso sherry cask. This Talisker was distilled in 2005 and released in 2015.

That results in a nose that offers chocolate, roasted nuts and a lot of orange liqueur on top of the classic Talisker traits: citrus, seaweeds and pepper. Some polished leather and a good dose of honey. Hint of walnuts. Sweeter than expected and simply marvelous.

The arrival is creamy and spicy with the peat and lots of brackish notes up front, followed by cloves, pepper and a some sniffing tobacco. Then the bittersweet oranges kick in. Honey and caramel. Eminently quaffable.

The finish is wonderfully long on pepper and candied orange peel.

Great Talisker (is there any other?) for a reasonable price.

A very nice classic that you can always get out of the closet. Great smoke-fruit combination.
    • Nose
Maritime smoke with beautiful fruit notes (towards red grapes, plums). Salt + pepper at the beginning, but then quickly the turn to the fruits. Then honey and milk chocolate are added. Everything looks beautiful round, soft, velvety.
    • Taste
First the reflection of the nose: strong and salty smoke. At the beginning, it is always peppery, until it reaches the turning point on the palate, where the fruity notes come to the front and reduce the pepper's sharpness. Nut and toffee accompany the fruits. Oak comes.
    • Finish
Medium long finish, in which the pepper returns and together with the oak provide a pleasantly spicy and dry finish.

  34. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

With 55 € still fairly priced, the Talisker DE (in general) also has its regular place in the whisky bar and goes well. Even if Talisker is not one of my private bottle candidates - from the DE, no matter what vintage, I like to drink one. These two are very similar, the 2005 overall looks a bit more robust, stronger, but if now after the tasting somebody would blindly give me one of both, I guess I can not say which one it is.
    • Nose
      Comparison 2003-14 vs 2005-15:
in both mild smoke, velvety sharpness, a bit salty, in 2003 starts something stronger, peppery, then sweeter, honey, orange, a hint of wine gums, in 2005 towards the beginning milder, slightly fruity, then peppery sweet and the smoke stays longer
    • Taste
in both the smoke is very cozy (lower Bowmore level), 2003 milder, creamier, more elegant, caramel slightly nut, later brown toast, white pepper, 2005 stronger, woodier, but also more sweetness, more pepper, chocolate
    • Finish
medium length, chocolate, pepper at both, 2003 has rather a slightly fruity note (Gummibärchen), 2005 slightly more oak, spicy, bitter

Nice stuff, especially for the price (about the same as the standard Talisker 10 around here).  Not better than the Talisker 10, but different and every bit as good.
    • Nose
Candied orange peel and sea spray
    • Taste
A little sweet, a bit of spice, then the Talisker peat.  Nicely integrated and pleasant.
    • Finish
The fruit and the smoke both linger.  Each sip invites another sip.

Nosing: smoke, sweetness, fruits, spices, sherry, removes red currant, malty, oak

Tasting: Strong, smoky, campfire, spicy, sweet, oak, fruity-spicy, dark fruits and sherry

With water: floral, more light fruits, apple, fresher, lighter

Comment: Fuller, more mature, more set and fruity than Talisker 10, but less smoke. Lagavulin Distillers Edition is even fuller, more mature and with more phenolic smoke

    • Nose
Pleasant wood-fired smoke with sherry. A fine fruity note runs through the smoke. A little honey and a little alcohol.
    • Taste
First sweet, spicy smoke .... then the chili / pepper sharpness! Now sherry and dark fruits. A lot of dark chocolate.
    • Finish
      Long, spicy and dry.

  41. didi1893 scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Unmistakably a Talisker! The sharpness, the fine peat and the spicy wood harmonize perfectly. The light sweetness completes the taste. Delicious!
    • Nose
Sweet and subtly spicy wood make the beginning. A little apricot and a touch of overripe fruits are added. Fine peat harmonizes with the fruit. A little Chilli joins in, it starts to biter quite easily in the nose.
    • Taste
First spicy wood, then explode (as expected) chilli and pepper in my mouth. Fine creamy sweetness and peat play together before the pepper and chilli strike again. Like gunpowder, the Talisker DE explodes throughout the mouth. Spices and spicy wood penetrate through the pepper from time to time.
    • Finish
After the second sip, the finish begins sharp and spicy. The pepper and the chili dominate. Spicy wood follows the sharpness. From the sweetness of the nose, nothing is felt. The aromatic wood will be remembered for a long time, the sharpness will fade away slowly and leave a pleasant aroma in the mouth.

A real mix of cream, honey, pepper, peat, melon and sawdust on the nose. Lovely! It could take a drop of water, but it didn't really change the profile. More pepper and peat on the palate (lacking a touch in complexity), and lacking the sweet creaminess I was hoping for from the nose. Medium length finish with a touch of bitterness, but some soft creamy notes steal in at the very end.

  45. KayMeertens scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

86/87. More sherry influence than the 2003 Edition (I don't have the 2004).
    • Nose
Peat, cranberry, demerara sugar, chili pepper and caramel. A little whiff of cucumber, not too much.
    • Taste
Peat, raspberry, caramel and chili pepper.
    • Finish
      Peat, cranberry, caramel and chocolate.

  46. Drochaid scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur
