Very mineral Ledaig, on flint, with a rather powerful peat, not very complex but it is greedy

No traces of sherry I could feel here. Anyway a very well done young and raw peater.
    • Nose
Raw peat smoke, oiliness, brine, polish, citrusy notes (grapefruits).
    • Taste
Strong, oily, peaty, smoky, sooty, slightly medicinal and citrusy.
    • Finish
      Long, mineral, smoky.

  14. ctu scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Incredible power and complexity of a 9 year old whisky! Perhaps this is the best virtue of Ledaig!
    • Nose
Brutal phenolic peat, banana, cucumber, citrus, coriander, sherry is barely perceptible
    • Taste
Strong, clean, oily flavors: huge sweet peat, cuban cigars with coffee, smoked fish, medicines
    • Finish
Long, gradual drying tastes with ash in the farewell

  15. Thermidor scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Much more complexity than I expected from such a young whisky.
    • Nose
Pickle juice, banana, general oiliness, something a tad soapish but not in a bad way (cilantro?), a bit of dust and shoe shop (unused soles aroma). Peaty but not quite as peaty as the heavier ones on Islay. I've had less peated Ledaigs to be sure.
    • Taste
Works both neat and with water. Oiliness dominates the tongue. Almost balmy. More peated Campbeltown than Islay, and from a very well picked cask (or casks?) Sooty but not harsh. Not very ashy. Cigar leaf, sweet tar, slight peat bite, high quality coffee with a spot of cream?. A little lacking in the middle...
    • Finish
...but this vaguely inky, sometimes ever so slightly fudgy dram has a pretty lasting if not the strongest possible aftertaste, with iron and a bit of aspirin (not exactly but a certain pill-like aroma anyway) coming up along with a particularly bitter salmiak note (the slightly bitter black bits in Malaco regular gott&blandat candy bags).

N: A lovely touch of [minced beef] ravioli
T: Jeera seeds and heathery peat
F: Mineral peat, very nice with a few ‘wow’ moments
    C: Fabulous.

    Easily scores a B+
