Whisky Reviews for The Famous Grouse Finest Scotch Whisky

  1. Thermidor scored this whisky 73 points Connoisseur

The state of this blend in 2021is IMO somewhere in the same series as Chivas 12 rather than JW, with more than a fair share of grain in it, and what feels like a measure of that sherry seasoned cask chocolate on top.
    • Nose
Vague ripe fruitiness meets those notes I usually get from young grain that feel ”greasy” to me, and some ethanol. Wood and menthol cigarettes, vague tar. Feels bland on the nose.
    • Taste
Watery and fleeting. Feels like a diluted malt. Slick, with a shy chocolate coating. Almost feels like it’s 30-35%, but then occasionally a boozy note spoils the party.
    • Finish
Greasy licorice coats my teeth lightly.

  2. SimondeVette scored this whisky 65 points Expert Junior

It's okay. Not very pronounced, but not disgusting either.
    • Nose
      Grain
    • Taste
Grain, vanilla, a bit of citrus
    • Finish
      Soft and sweet

  3. Kilo1 scored this whisky 66 points Expert Junior

An older label, good whiskey, with a good influence of malt alcohols, cereals are also felt, but they are well hidden.

  5. Alex Fridays scored this whisky 77 points Expert Senior

Sweet fruits, raisin, cake, spices, leather, rot slightly sweet fruits and sea salt on nose.

Sweet fruits, spices, cream brûlée, toffee and a little bit grain spirit notes on taste.

The short finish starts with vanilla, and goes with spices, sweet fruits, light dryness notes.

  9. holborndrinker scored this whisky 76 points Connoisseur

Sometimes an inexpensive blend is more satisfying than an expensive single malt - best njoyed with company.
    • Nose
A slight hint of sherry on the nose - quite inviting for something that is so inexpensive.
    • Taste
A pleasant taste - quite clean cut with the alcohol not being overbearing - a good session drink whilst chatting with friends.
    • Finish
Warming - makes you want another sip.
