Is it a peated sherry bomb or a sherried peat monster? You can read the full review at: http://maltandoak.com/macallan-meets-islay-a-peated-macallan-at-an-airport-near-you/

For us that enjoy peated islays and sherry bombs individually, this was a treat and fun experience. Macallan sherry works well with this level of peat, intermingling and never over powering it is balanced wonderfully (as one comes to expect with Macallan)
    • Nose
      90 90
Musty sherry, gummy bears, subtle peat, I get a tinge of grape leather tanginess I often find in wine/peat combos, light spice/char, toasted orange
    • Taste
      91 91
Ahh there is the peat! A smoky bowmore esq, mixed with Macallan sherry! 2nd sip invites Vanilla’s & spiciness to the smoke and sweetness, light salinity
    • Finish
      89 89
Drying, grape jelly sweetness, rounded now but a nice peat/spice warmth keeps this from being short

  3. Calmar scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

An excellent example of a sherry bomb - powerful, rich, full bouquet of sherry aged derivatives, juicy, well-balanced, excellent drinkability is attached, but not a masterpiece, but relatively young, but, as they say, to each his own.
    • Nose
Open, damp, wet boards, furniture varnish, sweet creamy notes - toffee, fudge, boiled condensed milk; raisins, caramel, light earthy tones, prunes, homemade marshmallows, dried apples, dried apricots, milk chocolate, pipe tobacco, leather goods.
    • Taste
Powerful, rich, mix of caramel sweetness and oak-furniture tones, coffee, chocolate, raisins, leather goods, flavored pipe tobacco, cola, notes of stout, a little ginger, orange peel.
    • Finish
Spicy, refreshing, oak, coffee, chocolate, cola, prunes, notes of velvety dark beer, light metallic sourness, sharp mineral shades.

When peat and rich sherry come together its always a perfection.
Not cheap, but nice experience from Macallan

Fruity sherry dram with peat and oak influence. Also hints of nuts on the palate. Not exactly with all these flavours as the manner in which they were delivered fell quite flat. Jack of all trades, a master of none.

Certainly not a bad malt. The high price but he does not justify the taste. I would have blindly attributed the smoke to the oak. Which is not a criticism now. For the price of a whisky but already kick. He does not really do that. For me, only a good Sherrymalt.
    • Nose
The sherry is here, of course. Aronia honey. Raisins. Plum compote with possibly a little cinnamon. Zwetschegenmarmelade. Also removes orange peel. Then nuts. The smoke I take rather than aromatic oak notes and roasted aromas was. Again and again a bit mineral notes. After the first sips now less fruity, but oakier. The fruits are also slightly sour.
    • Taste
Honey again in the mouth. But now more forest honey. After that again the red fruits. Here they come to me but slightly lighter than in the nose. Snot groats. Blood orange. Then it tingles. Some white pepper. The oak starts. Liquorice.
    • Finish
In fact something like slightly cold smoke. It is getting drier. Oranges with cloves. Tree bark.

sherry! hints of nuts, dark fruits, moldy, orangepeels, some herbs, some dark plums, raisins, just wonderful, there is also quite an intense but nice peppery spiciness, which adds to the complexity quite nicely. Really nice stuff. the Macallan premium price tag is something you would have to like but this dram is all right!

You can already tell that Macallan can sherry whisky and has a reputation to lose. The delicate hint of smoke gives the whole thing a very nice kick, the oily and tingling mouthfeel is really wonderful, the departure accordingly memorable. I have to apologize a little, I would not have expected this Macallan so well. A top whisky, no doubt.
    • Nose
In the glass is the Macallan of impressively beautiful dark bronze. And at the Macallan everything is real, he is undyed. The smell: From the whisky glass on the one hand light smoke is immediately felt, next to the sherry and baked apple notes in the foreground. A very nice nose - and the complementary delicate-spicy smoke makes things even more interesting and enriches the scenery immensely. The second and third smells are joined by oak flavors to the smoky, fresh-brewed dark-fruit bouquet.
    • Taste
In the mouth of the Rare Cask Black comes very oily and pleasantly tingling. Again, the fresh pastry and sherry are in the foreground, the smokiness is something to the side, also the dark fruits. The oak flavors combine perfectly with the last tingle. The Rare Cask Black actually looks very old, although it is an age-old NAS whisky too. Which, as one notices, must be nothing bad.
    • Finish
The finale is full and warming long, here again combine all the flavors and the old ones like oak, sherry and dark berries play the main role now.

not very consistent dram. Still enjoyable but really not worth the ridiculous tag price
    • Nose
      80 80
Sherry takes the upper hand. Notes of citrus and dusty oak. there´s sharpness to it.
    • Taste
      83 83
More bitter and sharper than the nose. Dust, smoky wood, citrus, vanilla, rocks. peat not present
    • Finish
      82 82
      medium. Pepper, nutmeg, light peat
