Alcoholic, sharp, spicy, with short finish, a bit bitter, too young, no complexity. I wonder where these high collector market prices come from ? Even if not very good, but „A Tale of Winter“ is better than this one here.

Christmas cookies, cinnamon, vanilla sorbet, apple peel, shortcrust pastry.

Pleasant sweetness in the mouth, candied apple, some white pepper.
    • Finish

      Medium finish, fades away slowly.

  3. Roland7 scored this whisky 84 points Expert Junior

Fruit! Sweet red apple, pear lollipop, kiwi, orange, honey, marmalade, mint, green tea, green stem, dry leaves, light beer (lager), gingerbread, milk chocolate.

  4. Don Cassi scored this whisky 77 points Expert Senior

Nice vanilla on the nose with a hint of apple / pear. Unfortunately, very cautious about the aroma. If the food is left standing for a long time, it develops an aroma of banana and honey.

Sweet and silky soft in the mouth with hints of sherry, which intensifies in the finish and ends in a nice raisin note.

Nice malt, which, apart from the sherry notes, does not offer much complexity and could be a bit stronger (especially in the aroma).

    Grade: 2

A very delicious and dangerous sassy Everydaydram, fits for me even if it does not sound in the notes but just as well in the summer, almost has something of Fanta
    • Nose
Very round as expected from Glenmo, mild, orange peel, baked apple, some flambéed banana, honey, Christmas spices, cinnamon, clove, wild honey and some malt
    • Taste
Here the same, full orange notes, very pleasant and sweet, brown sugar, brown malt, a lot of toffee, apple peel, baked apple, gummy almost, milk chocolate sauce and some raisins and nuts, a little ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg
    • Finish
At best medium long, peach glazed, a little clove, nutmeg, dark malt and dark honey and orange peel

The name is program and so far, the whisky is quite successful - sweet and spicy-tasty winter Christmas whisky, not too thin, not too sophisticated, in the credit of the "limitation" maybe a 50 € whisky would have been a nice Christmas gift, various mainland I would not pay for fantasy prices.
    • Nose
mild, sweet and fruity (orange, mushy banana), honey, sweet and spicy, cinnamon, cloves, gingerbread spice, very light dry herb infusion
    • Taste
sweet, round, tasty - orange jelly, apricot, honey, raisin, milk chocolate, slightly nutty, clove, some ginger
    • Finish
medium long, soft cake orange with a little pepper

    Serge:Glenmorangie 'A Midwinter Night's Dram' (43%, OB, 2015)
Some story, a few details about some partial finishing in oloroso, and
basta, this is yet another NAS we won’t know much about. Colour: dark
gold. Nose: starts with some vinous notes, especially raisins, rubber,
and blackcurrant buds, and goes on with green walnuts, cardboard, cider
apples, mulled wine, and Christmas spices. It reminds be a bit of the
early sherry finishings (Sherry Wood Finish, NAS) from 15 years ago.
Nothing very sexy in this nose, I’m afraid, even if the rubber tends to
go away, leaving room for some chocolate. Mouth: some roasted nuts and
raisins, a bit in the style of Aberlour 10 yo, then peanuts, orange
marmalade, and yet again a touch of rubbery grass. Wee bits of cinnamon
mints, and something burnt. Medium bodied. Tends to improve a bit after
ten minutes. Finish: rather short, with more chocolate. A little rubber
again in the aftertaste, as well as some pepper. Comments: not bad. Not
very inspired, not very inspiring... SGP:451 - 79 points.

Way too expensive meanwhile. Was sold for 28GPB in a supermarket chain for several weeks in UK.

Reminds me on christmas and winter time!
    • Nose
Dark dried fruits like raisins and
baked apple, burnt caramel and cinnamon.
    • Taste
Initially sweet followed by cinnamon and ginger, brown sugar and fudge, then baked apple, malt and cereals.
    • Finish
Slightly short, dry and a lttle bitter.

Keep what the name promises !!! A great dram.
    • Nose
Coffee powder, barley malt, roasted aromas, a light earthiness, cinnamon vanilla on winter apple (direction Braeburn), carnation, behind a hint of acacia honey
    • Taste
The baked apple from the Christmas market and a children's punch. Simply delicious.
    • Finish
      Aromatic, long, delicate

The dessert flavours would make this ideal with traditional Christmas pudding or better yet Christmas cake,. Great value for money.
    • Nose
Lighter notes of grass, vanilla and fresh oak dominate an undercurrent of brandy and raisins
    • Taste
Typically Speyside, sherry-esque mouthfeel and flavours. Good balance of sweet honey, raisin and drying oak. Some brown sugar and spice.
    • Finish
A surprisingly long and luxurious finish on the palate, with the tiniest hint of smoke at the very end.

So another — what else would you expect —  limited edition (UK only), this time inspired by Glenmorangie’s tradition to treat The Sixteen Men of Tain with a special whisky for the holiday season. A Midwinter Night’s Dram was first matured in ex-Bourbon casks and was then finished in ex-Oloroso Sherry casks. Sounds familiar to me…

Nose - sweet sherry, pineapple, orange zest, ginger, cinnamon, slight spice and baked apple.Taste - spice, natural orange juice, cinnamon, oak and nutmeg.

Finish - spicy, orange juice, oak and burnt caramel, a off note developes at the end.

Overall - The nose doesn't disappoint on the taste, good strong development with a decent finish. Well worth buying for the price. As the bottle has gone down it has lost some of it's character. A first I gave this 88 points, then 87 and now 86.

All in all, similar to the ten-year standard, but fortunately not as round and limp as this one. A mild whisky for the winter.
    • Nose
flowery, fruity (orange, tangerine, sweet pear), carnation, herbs, fruit jelly, walnuts, spicy, slightly fermented fruit, later you can still discover a light coffee note
    • Taste
spicy at first, but lessened and the whisky becomes more fruity; sweet fruits, some chocolate and some oak, schnapps, walnuts, oranges, a little ginger
    • Finish
medium to long; spicy, yet gentle, almost creamy, slightly malty

I'm not sure it is a Sainsbury's exclusive as it was on sale in Morrisons at a special offer of £28 per bottle.

    dave broom scores 8/10Nose
Big, sweet, in fact almost liqueur-like to start
with. There’s masses of stewing orange, light clove, dark mint
chocolate and even a little whiff of Black Forest gâteau. In time the
sweeter, fruitier, Sherried elements become all-enveloping.
    Palate
There’s a suggestion of Tokaji wine in here and
everything begins to become slightly more scented, with a little
allspice and more identifiably ‘Morangie soft fruits – apricot,
especially, and a tightening of oak.
    Finish
    Sweet, then spicy.
    Conclusion
Maybe not the most complex Glenmo’, but it’s big, it’s fat, it’s fun. Exclusive to Sainsbury’s and, at £40, this is a steal.

    I believe a Sainsburys exclusive?

    Any Europhiles fancy a bottle??

  35. pilgrim77 scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Trademark soft, fruity Glenmorangie nose at first (not too far removed from the 10yo but with slightly more richness and depth). However, after a minute or two in the glass, extra layers of warming spices, roasted nuts and fresh herbs appear, with lashings of mulled wine and mince pies making this very pleasant to spend some time with. It is very well balanced as both the bourbon and sherry cask characteristics are given room to shine. A definite improvement on the standard 10yo, and I much prefer this to the Lasanta editions I have tried previously. The spicy elements predominate initially on the palate, before the classic soft, sweet fruits return later on. A slightly short and dry finish is the only real disappointment. Beautifully presented and really excellent value (£28 at Morrisons!).
