    • Nose

Almost bourbon like smell to me with notes of vanilla. Glazed apple. Sweet and fruity.
    • Taste
      85 85
Taste is quite well balanced. Rather sweet again. Worked best for me when I let the glass breathe for couple of minutes. Not as full bodied experience as you get with Red Breast, but definitely good bang for the buck.
    • Finish
      70 70
The finish is not harsh, nor something spectacular either. It's somewhere there in the middle leaving no distinct impression. Sweet tones with a pinch of spiciness continue as it fades away.

  2. Ardie scored this whisky 85 points Member Junior

N: Burnt sugar and honey. Lightly pears, oak, salt peanuts and limestone. Delicate maltiness.
T: Limestony pears, oily even, light biscuity cacao and oak. Very balanced and so much more body than the blue labelled older version. Good Malt!

Pretty sweet but fruity. Green fruit of the orchard. Green apples. Citrus. A pinch of spices.
    • Taste
      79 79
Smoke plays the first fiddle. Ash from the ashtray. Sweetness in the background. Caramel. Even salty caramel, maybe.
    • Finish
      79 79
Sweet, caramel. Lots of smoke. A pinch of spices.

Nose: very fine smoke, light fruits, currant, raspberry, later some chocolate
Taste: present, yet fine smoke, nuts
disposal; spicy, smoke fades, quite short Conclusion: not complex, but pleasing and in the price range one of the better 76/100

  9. Crann feàrna scored this whisky 80 points Expert Senior

Entry level Loch Lomond. Nothing spectacular. A ‘jobber’. And presented as such: price, packaging, NAS, and all other attributes with that. But no bad whisky. It works for what it is meant to do.
    • Nose
      81 81
Oily. Fusile. Wood sweetness. Hint of vanilla. Seems complex, but isn’t.
With water there is barley sugar, some vanilla, a bit of honey, slightly metallic and a little soft spices.
    • Taste
      80 80
Short, sweet arrival. Medium long development of sweet and sour and bitter underripe citrus fruits
With water the arrival is light. The development is short with sweet and bitter (no sourness) citrus.
    • Finish
      79 79
Without water the finish is bitter, dry and alcoholic.
With water the finish improves and is of a citrussy dry-ness. No bitter or alcoholic hints.

He is better than his predecessor in the blue tin can, which was available in many supermarkets. The sweetness is very pleasant and clearly to emphasize. Even the typical Grain Fehlnote for Loch Lomond is not superimposed and is within tolerable limits. On the whole, a positive development - 10.11.2017
    • Nose
First thought goes to muesli, oatmeal, even a corny bar comes to my mind, malt, cereal, pumpernickel, sour-pungent fruit note, apple, burnt rubber, old rubber, window seal, damp cardboard, avocado, apricot, nutty sweet, almonds
    • Taste
Malty, cereals, slightly spicy notes of alcohol, light fruits, creamy, nougat, chocolate, latte, fruit candy, honey at the end
    • Finish
      Short

Not outstanding, as you would expect with a NAS, but (fortunately) miles away from the favorite drop of Captain's Haddock (from Tim & Struppi), the Blue Label. A pleasing little All Day Dram.
    • Nose
Malt, green & yellow immature fruits, a touch of wet cardboard & cellar-stored paper. A little bit dusty. Grapes. Water reveals red berries with sweet wine cream, hints of nuts, a dry scent of grain and a whit herbal.
    • Taste
At the beginning, clear and clean. Pretty smooth. With malt, oak, sweet berry fruits, small dusty notes and a slightly oaky dryness. Significant juiciness makes it possible to draw conclusions about a low age. Malt & caramel face soft cereal & moist sponge cake.
    • Finish
The finish seems to be sweet and sweeter. In it, notes of fruity acidity and a dull luster of oak mix. Will be dusty in the end. If you add water to the whisky, the finish will be dry (oak) but entices with caramel syrup and a creamy creaminess. Toward the end, you have enjoyed several sips, shows a small tail of wet white pepper.

Very sweet. Definitely a dessert whisky.
    • Nose
      Freshly-made toast. Brandy snap.
    • Taste
Candyfloss (cotton-candy). Powdered sugar. Turkish delight. Pistachio nuts. Banana.
    • Finish
Light but long. Lemony balancing dryness.

He is not very harmonious, complex or adult. But not as underground, as one might expect from the old tin cans. OK. But about 5 € of the 25 are for the pretty bottle.
    • Nose
sweet (malt, caramel), some freshness (salt, lemon) and what edgy (weedy, metal?, resin?), looks quite young
    • Taste
very sweet (brown candy, caramel) and woody-bitter, there is almost herb bitters / cough drops, for 40% he bites quite nicely in the tongue ... after some habituation (is also the 1st in the evening) I would attest still milk coffee
    • Finish
bitter always stays like long on the tongue, so also here - herbal bitters, coffee, cough syrup

initial taste is not of my favourite, but I found the finish pleasing (but short) definatly worth it's RRP but not the one I'm going to stock up on
    • Nose
no doubt it's young, oaky vanilla, a field of grass, salty cream butter, a little pepper far back
    • Taste
not unpleasant but unusual, sweet and sour, initally like old wet cardboard but rapidly changing to sweet nuttyness
    • Finish
quite short on notes of sweetness, a short moment of Polo mints before fading on dry vanilla

This is better than their blends. But it’s not as good as some other single malts as the same price point. It did still have some complexity to it, maybe with some age that could come through a little more.

    From my blog: http://iwriteaboutstuffilike.com/2016/03/30/loch-lomond-and-glen-scotia-tasting/
    • Nose
Cereals, honey. Toasted oats. Tropical fruit. Dried apricots. Butterscotch. Canned pineapple. Bit of salt. Leather. Burned fruit.
    • Taste
Light. Light wood. Gooseberries. Stewed fruit. Salt. Honey. Macadamias
    • Finish
      Short-medium. Honey. Grains. Macadamia.

  25. St. Pauli scored this whisky 77 points Connoisseur

Not flawless, but not as bad as I suspected. But on the other side: It's young and very sweet, and quite one-dimensional. So the final verdict that this may be fine if you have a low budget, but don't expect to have a winner. Might do well with coke though.
    • Nose
Quite young, a metallic note and cardboard. Vanilla, semi-baked bread with a salty touch. Olives, grass and sugar. A sturdy bloke.
    • Taste
Sweet in sugar level, but rather bitter from the taste, like a herbal liqueur. Then there is something mineral, which reminds me of limestone. Then there is quite some vanilla and the taste of the sugar, it's like a cake frosting.
    • Finish
Sweet vanilla, herbs (coriander), almost soapy.

    N: Erm,... light and pleasant?
    T: Easy, sugary malt
    F: ,..?
    C: It’s better than expected

    Scores a D [77]

  27. talyn256 did not rate this whisky Member Senior

Young and punchy. Not bad for the price.
    • Nose
Salty bread dough on the nose. Olives, too. Are we making focaccia bread?? Grassy and honeyed. Vanilla cream, salt and pepper.
    • Taste
Very sugary and slightly chalky, like love hearts that've been ground into a paste and poured onto vanilla ice cream. Bit of new-make/Grappa going on in there. Reminds me of a crystallised grape juice confectionary we have in Cyprus.
    • Finish
      Short and chalky.
