    Speyside Region 38 yo 1977/2015 (46.2%, Whisky-Fässle, sherry butt)
Colour: amber. Nose: yeah, chestnut purée, pecan pie, dried figs, and
cigars and chocolate. Cigars dipped into chocolate! And prunes, old
armagnac (many old armagnacs soon on WF!) oranges, chestnut honey… Mouth
(neat): starts dry and even a little aggressive, with a dry dustiness
and bags of cloves, but it tends to settle down. A bit. Dry herbs,
thyme, chocolate, juniper berries, dried dates, a touch of salt… And
quite a lot of dark toffee from Ballindalloch. I said nothing. Finish:
long, earthy, and chocolaty. Some mint again in the aftertaste, that’s
old age. Very nice dry tannins. Comments: not the first from these
parcels we’re trying. All of them have been excellent. SGP:461 - 90 points.

Even if I have already drunk (for my taste) better for the price, this is still a wonderful whisky.
Unfortunately, the PLV does not quite match mMn.
He needs a little time in the glass and definitely no water.

    • Nose
A very nice sherry sweetness gets straight in your nose, a bit woody, muff, dark berries, alcohol is super involved
    • Taste
Sherry sweet, wood, strawberry (?), Very slightly bitter
    • Finish
Alcohol is barely noticeable, very sweet, berries, grapes, milk chocolate

It is good. Although it may have been slightly more pronounced to my taste, to say that it is extremely good. Nevertheless, it is definitely a very good whisky. Nicely balanced between the sherried aspects and the spirit. And don’t forget all the chocolate notes in this whisky, YUM!
    • Nose
Nice, it reminds me of the “undisclosed” speyside regions from 1973. It’s a similar profile but it has a higher influence from the cask and a bit less tropical. Some tobacco, chocolate and some fresh tropical fruits. Brambles mixed with pineapple. I get all sorts of weird combinations but it is good.
    • Taste
Chocolate, After Eight mints. Fruity layers from oranges, pears and some tropical aspects which I think goes towards cooked and caramelised pineapple. Then tobacco and again some chocolate. A fair bit of herbs and cloves but that goes back to a nice mixture of chocolate and some fruity sweetness.
    • Finish
The finish is a bit short, which is a pity and it is loosing some points there. But again a nice mixture of brambles, berries, chocolate, mint. Then some dryness.

A cracker of a sherry whisky, with just a bit too much dryness to crack the 90 point barrier, but still really, really good.
    • Nose
Almonds and macademia nuts with English breakfast tea. Some oak shavings. Prunes and red grape juice with pralines and chocolate milk.
    • Taste
Roasted coffee beans and cloves, with a quick hit of pepper. Pretty dry and quite some tannins. Milk chocolate, cocoa and basil. A bit of dried fruit, but not much.
    • Finish
Drying with cocoa powder and spices.
