Intense concentration of fruits -- honeydew, pears, pineapples, and yes, LOTS and LOTS of mangos. Vanillic. It's a bit "rough" however and not as smooth and refined as some of the other similarly aged Irish, and this is possibly due to the oak, but that is actually not a negative. At first nosing, I thought this was a refill sherry, but reading some of the reviews, it seems that this was an ex-bourbon cask? Very active cask, I'll say! (The taste has no sherry, just maybe the nose). I like this a lot. From a sample.

Colour:
Dark gold.

Smell:
A full, powerful, rich and complex whisky with aromas of fresh berries, quince jelly, créme de cassis, caramel, red apples, ripe mango, papaya, cherries, melon, juicy oranges, orange marmalade, creamy oak, tannins, yeast, pineapple, grapefruit, hint of mocha, cinnamon, candied ginger, backed banana, sweet white wine, hint of new leather, subtle varnish and fresh oak shavings.

Taste:
A powerful, rich, full, balanced and complex whisky with aromas of macerated cherries, créme de cassis, forest berries, red current jam, quince jelly, apple, pine apple, hint of coconut, spicy oak, tannins, cinnamon, fresh ginger, candied ginger, caramel, vanilla, toffee, cereals, plums, fresh figs, blackcurrants, pepper, bitter chocolate, furniture polish, hint of mint, vanish and vanilla custard.

Finish:
A long, intensive and drying finish with aromas of bitter tannins, big oak, spices, lot’s of fresh fruits, dried stone fruits, créme de cassis, earthy tones and an oak centered death.

Conclusion:
For an ex-bourbon cask there are surprisingly a lot of flavours normally associated with a sherry cask maturation. And I have to say this is the first immersive Teeling I tasted. Well balanced, big oomph and nice layers of complex fruity aroma’s.
So yeah there you have it, a Teeling I love!

Nose

Tropical fruit punch with condensed aromas of watermelon, papaya, pineapple, apples and oranges. Some slight notes of sugar and caramel follow. Alcohol masked very nicely.

Taste

Again exotic fruits from the nose with well pronounced berries that start showing up. Wow, this is like a visit to a top greengrocer market.

Finish

Long, intense, does not fade. To me it's passion fruit extract with this sweet and sour flavours interchanging.

Very good!

@Tommyknocker, I agree on intense fruit, I just didn't taste the Mango. Which doesn't mean it's not there of course. For sure it's a high class whisky.

I cannot agree with Tommyknocker on this one since he's speaking of Mango. Cassis. Lots of Cassis which reminds me of the old Bowmores from the 1960's. Pleasant, berry- and caramel-like sweetness in the background accompanied with a decent and well balanced amount of oak.

Taste

Reminds me of those cassis pastilles you get when you go to Switzerland. Well-balanced berry-sweetness accompanied with a beautiful spyciness in the background

Finish

Long and intense. Smooth tannins paired with a delicate spicyness. Ripe fruit and hints of cassis as well, which remain, long after you swallowed it.

Comments

One hell of an Irish Whiskey. Just one more sip... and another one... and another one, please.

Pur: sofort Mango, Blutorange, rote Äpfel, Kirsche, Wassermelone.

Mangobombe! Ein Ausnahmefass!
