    Peat bomb that destroys the Arran distillate.

    Quite disappointing bottle. Not a lot of flavours other than the peat. Cannot be recommended.

    ... young, smoky, very neat Arran Malt!
    [Color] white wine;
    • Nose
      pleasant smoke, citrus, lemon, fresh, floral, herbaceous, honey sweet;
    • Taste
      strong tingling, sweet onset, swelling smoke, citrus fruits, oily, voluminous, young and impetuous;
    • Finish
      medium-long, oily, fruity finish; in the end sweet and metallic;

    N- Scents of malt floor but appeared highly solvent with this one, raw grainy sweetness skimmed with mineral and grapefruit. Milky chocolate come fore with thin sweet peat, more or else less like the fifth edition, perhaps a bit more coastal in this one. (84/18)

    P- Heather honey, chocolate, layer of peat, fruity sweet and cedar. Grilled peaches, generic and weak. (82/17)

    F- Medium long, spicy coat with plenty of fruity sweetness, grainy. (85/19)

    Body/Balance- 84/18. Rounded but way too sweet at most times that over shadowed the peat.

    Weighted Rate- 72pt.

    Yellow fruits with a light smoke, that's a combination that I love very much. It is very well balanced between exotic fruits and smoke, sweetness and spiciness. The Brennereicharackter still shining through, the alcohol is felt, but not unpleasant.
    • Nose
      85 85
      Anise, delicate smoke (10 - 15 ppm), citrus fruits, ripe fruits (pear, gooseberry, pineapple)
    • Taste
      84 84
      intense, spicy-sweet, smoke becomes stronger (20 - 25 ppm), fruity, light alcoholic note
    • Finish
      84 84
      long (7/10), tenderly woody and smoky

    For me he has earned a fat 85 in all classes. If you like smoke and do not expect anything special like ham, cowshed or campfire, like young explosive whisky, you will not be disappointed like me.

    Had the others not in comparison, but Arran continues to thrill, for me by far has the best of most NAS among all in the price segment.
    • Nose
      Interesting, a nice touch of the juice from the pre-cut pineapple packs, beautiful mango, some fresh banana, behind it always a very delicate touch of a salt / lime pool on the ground, also a little floral, violet, vanilla, cream sauce, makes you feel like at any time more, of course, is not as strong in the notes as an exotic with exotic, but pleasant
    • Taste
      Here, too, as in the nose, the water of the pineapple, then fine mango, some passion fruit. even, but less banana than in the nose, limes, the fine brine, violets, cream, vanilla, some cinnamon too, white sugar, some melon and a very fine smoke at the conclusion only
    • Finish
      Here, of course, he loses something, like many NAS, it remains a fine acidity of exotic fruit, without the individual fruit notes, plus some salt and fine smoke in the background, not exactly definable from which the smoke comes from (campfire, ash, peat .. ?), medium long

    I haven't tried a lot of Arran's range but it always gets good press, and this is another good solid dram from their range. This is for those who like their peaty whiskies toned down a touch.

    A really nice well balanced young peaty whisky as you would expect from Arran. Looking forward to trying the CS version.
    • Nose
      There are hints of pineapple juice and mango, but the barley is strong. The nose isn't that strong as far as peat and smoke is concerned, it's a bit buttery, with orange peel and plastic buckets.
    • Taste
      The taste is different altogether,there are some grassy notes along with some metal notes, it sort of reminded me of sucking on an old coin when i was a kid. There is some caramel in there mixed with some spiced up cooked mackerel. The balance between the medicinal, the peat and the smoke is very good.
    • Finish
      A nice long finish, the medicinal side dominates, with fox's glacier mint on the death.
