  1. Mannix65 scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Beautiful Laphi with its typical characteristics. Very appetizing because of its fleshiness
    • Nose
Chimney fire, smoke and phenol, very sweet, grilled sausage on open fire, smoked ham, seaweed and algae, very maritime, but also a bit of cesspool and cow dung, a trace of lemon balm and cooling mint
    • Taste
Iodine ointment, very sweet and full-bodied, juicy and meaty, smoked barbecue ham and mackerel. Smoke and phenol are very well interwoven, in the end a nuance of green apple and lime
    • Finish
Medium to long, the smoke and heavy sweetness last a long time on the palate

Very complex nose in which the palate can not quite keep up. Overall, but more typical, beautiful Laphi.
    • Nose
an incredibly fresh, maritime, and at the same time very greasy, spicy Laphi. There are grassy, slightly fishy notes with burning barbecue wood next to gravy, which was poured over a suckling pig. Complex and delicious!
    • Taste
at the beginning very sugary sweet, some fresh lime, then harsh peat smoke, tar, ashes, burnt meat. As if the barbecue had dissolved from the nose spontaneously and the best pieces of meat would have been forgotten. Too bad :-(
    • Finish
      medium long, sweet, very smoky.

Fruity, punchy and peaty, iodine taste is flooded with all together.

    N: Peat, citrus, ashes, earth.

    Some vanilla sweetness.

    Smoked salmon, ham.

    Very nice and rounded.

T: Gentle arrival, with some peat and peppers.

    Quite sweet, mouthcoating.

Some ashes, rather dry and a bit sour.

F: Gentle but long finish, with some smoked ham.

Not a lot of spice here. Enough peat though!

    Great nose!

This is a textbook example of how medicinal a Laphroaig can get. It’s not bad, but a bit of a one trick pony. I prefer my heavily peated malts to be a bit fruitier. http://whiskyinformer.com/home/laphroaig-1997-smws-29163?utm_source=WB
    • Nose
The medicinal peat smoke jumps out, loads of antiseptic and ash. If you dig a little deeper there’s brine and some fresh lime. Then seafood, think lobster and crab. With more time in the glass, some more fruity notes come out, but they are burried beneath the peat.
    • Taste
Quite gradual arrival, especially considering the ABV. Peat smoke ofcourse, smoked sausage and seafoods, lobsters and crabs are back, joined by some oysters. Salt as well. Digging deep, some hints of marshmallow, vanilla and green apple.
    • Finish
The medicinal notes continue, obviously. Some green apple gives it a hint of sweetness. Grapefruit at the tail end of this quite long finish.

Since the typical phenol of the Laphroigs is missing, I would have typed the Blind Tasting on an excellent Lagavulin. Torfig and sweet - great drops !!

    Sample 3 of Virtual Blind Tasting 7 @ HetWhiskyForum.nl
    • Nose
BAM! Koekoek. Turfbommetje.
    • Taste
droge, rokerige binnenkomst. Vanille, citroen, kalksteen en witte peper. Goed maar relatief simpel.
    • Finish
middellang, rokerig, droog. As en zeewier.
