    • Nose
An overwhelming sherry nose. Undiluted, a concentrated mixture of many dark fruits, figs, raisins, nuts, oak, spices, chocolate. The alcohol does not stay in the background shortly after pouring out (but gets a little weaker over time). An umami note resonates in the background. The aromas open with water, the sherry dominates, of course. Dark fruits come to the fore, a hint of furniture polish resonates; Cinnamon figs, vanilla, dates, currants.
    • Taste
Very strong and sweet start with a nice portion of sherry. Oily, sparkling, dark chocolate, berries, fermented grapes, oranges, nuts. Here, too, the water creates space for the aromas. The sherry still dominates, as are plums, walnuts, dark berries, honey and coffee.
    • Finish
Long finish with a nice berry note, chocolate, wood and dark fruit.

It is truly not for every day. What a bomb! For this malt you have to take your time and have the desire. Less sweet on the nose, as expected. But a very interesting note of balsamic. In the mouth sweet at the beginning and with plenty of water, the other nuances come out well. Is it worth the € 120? Yes. If you like the sherry hydrogen bomb feeling, you must have tried it.

What kind of colour! How old is the malt Five years? Not much older. And then such a color in the glass. Balsamic. Dark undiluted balsamic vinegar from Modena. And what the color already suggests can also be seen with a force in the nose. Incredible sherry board! Plums in dark chocolate, often found at Christmas. Even the aromatic balsamic, not the one from the supermarket, the expensive stuff in the 0.25l bottle is meant, the syrupy, sweet and sour taste is on the nose. What were the sherry casks? I suppose Oloroso, because he resembles - even more concentrated - the Allardice from Glendronach, which I have openly - one of my favorites. The alcohol strength pushes the aromas against the nose even more. Slight burning in the nose.
It gets softer on the nose with plenty of water. Additional dark fruits such as dates and figs also appear. Add a little vanilla, not too much - just a little.

I don't try it undiluted, because the alcohol level of 57.8% is too violent for me. Sweet, sparkling, astringent in the mouth. He rages violently. He may need a few more drops. With further water addition it becomes softer. The typical oloroso, sherry taste buds, like old leather, dark fruits are immediately present. A spiciness, rather of the oak of the barrel, is also present in the mouth towards the end.

Dark fruity towards the end. Delicious. Associated with a nice nut taste. At the end it gets slightly bitter. The overall finish is not too long, except for the oak.

Absolute sherry overkill. Certainly not a whisky for every day, but if you fancy completely exaggerated sherry whisky, there is hardly anything more suitable.
    • Nose
Incredibly dense sherry nose, dried fruits such as figs, dates, raisins. Also a lot of umami, beef broth, and lovage. Brown sugar and roasted walnuts. Strong oak with cocoa notes, dark chocolate, and Christmas spices like cloves and cinnamon.
    • Taste
Strong start, oily mouthfeel. Also incredibly dense sherry notes on the palate, sweet dried fruits, figs, dates, candied oranges. And again Liebstöckl and an indefinable mix of herbs and spices, which is somewhat reminiscent of a bitter herb. Strong oak that brings a lot of cocoa.
    • Finish
Longer finish. Still the dates, figs and oranges. Spicy oak and a lot of dark chocolate. Astringent.

At the second tasting I had to put it down a bit because of the "root suds" and the slight maggin notes ...

    • Nose
Full with beautiful depth. Fir honey, figs, dates. Raisins, leather, vanilla. Lovage. Cocoa powder, dark chocolates, espresso.
    • Taste
Sweet raspberries, prunes, some chili. Fir honey, roasted almonds. Earl Gray tea, brown sugar, some cinnamon. Long.

Definitely a sherry bomb, but needs plenty of water to release a variety of flavors. Already makes an impression, but also looks a little bit set-up: on the one hand, overflowing sherry, on the other noticeably young, undiluted, almost untrinkable.
    • Nose
rich, dark sherry, plum jam, joint silicone, gravy, alcoholic, then an immense fig note, plum jam, pumpernickel, raisins, nut mix, like trail mix, slightly musty, with water motor oil, Black Forest Cherry
    • Taste
very oily, thick consistency, consistently strong, slightly hot, without water too strong, but also with very dry
    • Finish
again very intense at first, but does not last as long as expected, dry sweetness, hazelnuts

My first Kavalan Solist Sherry Cask and definitely not my last! A sherry bomb of course and this within only 5 years! Lovely!
    • Nose
Milk chocolate, plums, dates, almonds and walnuts. In the back some pepper
    • Taste
A sherry bomb but a bit more dirty as 84627 which I have in my glass in parallel. Could be pro or con but for me the 84627 is better!
    • Finish
A lot of cocoa powder and oak.

This bottling is absurd. It is unbelievable what Kavalan gets out of a sherry barrel in 5 (!) Years with the climatic conditions. There is nothing like it worldwide. A fantastic whisky with high complexity and brute sherry influence.
    • Nose
First of all, I must say that this whisky smells like no other I have had in the glass so far. I smell notes of gravy, of course sherry, lovage, raisins, figs and some almonds with water.
    • Taste
The taste starts with the strong wood, then the dry sherry begins. This is followed by syrup, raisins, dark chocolate, vanilla and cardamom.
    • Finish
The finish is very long, with the sweetness dominating, especially chocolate, vanilla sugar and grapes.

If you like very, very much sherry, this is the place for you. He tastes despite his age, not at all young. Only the alcohol, I find not well involved, he seems somehow put on ... even with water. He is not a sherry (bomb), but a sherry (atom bomb) ;-)
