- the Springer18 - a great Campbeltown- toppaint!
[Color] old gold;
ripe fruits (peach, apricot), malt, sherry, caramel, gentle smoke;
strong, fruity onset, sherry, oily, harmonious, oak, caramel, delicate smoke, complex; Salivation stimulating;
soft, fruity (peach?) long finish;
- challenging, but extremely consistent
typical Springbank coastal character (slightly salty), herbaceous smoke (very slight, but noticeable), yellow fruit (mirabelle, sweetened canned peaches), roasted almonds (salted caramel), marzipan, dry earth, fresh pepper
clear salmiac licorice with slightly acidic impact, somewhat "difficult" in character, old balsamic, oily consistency, mineral, almonds, marzipan, molasses and mellow wood
warm and earthy-mineral dry
- leave whisky. I did not have such an elegant yet dirty malt yet. But still. I would spend 120 to 130 euros for a Springbank, I would buy the Burgundy. this one is just too good for me. But that is whining on a very high level. I miss somehow, the rough edges.
Immediately one of the sprinkling smoke rises in the nose. What for me is the Springbank character. But in a way I have not experienced that yet. Very subtle, elegant .... round. Then it gets fruity. Delicate mandarin kiwi. a little gooseberry. Reminds me of Mortlach SV 19 years. The 46% alcohol is perfectly integrated. Then some oak. Now the bourbon barrel flavors ... vanilla and caramel. I suppose sherry casks are there, but I can not make out such aromas.
Yeah ... delicious. Everything over comes very tender, very elegant. Fruity, pineapple, gooseberry, kiwi, mandarin. Creamy. And again, even in the mouth ... the alcohol perfectly integrated. After a few minutes also sherry barrel flavors. Dark fruits. So plummy
Long, tropical fruits are added ... and milk chocolate.
- Single Blind Dram. Springbank vertical tasting, 10.2016
Bottle details of what we tried:
Springbank 18yo, 46%, Bottled 27.7.2015, Bottlecode 16/325
Should be the same vatting batch as this though.
Mineral, smokey, apricots, sherry, meaty. (88)
Oily, sherry, mineral & smokey. (88)
More sherry & the typical mineral & smokey notes for modern Springbank, faint tropical fruits occasionally. (90 / 88)
- Very decent, but not breathtaking. For a distillery that almost never disappoints, this one is pretty bland.
Green apple, apricot, pear, lemon and lime. Wet stones, sea breeze, coastal influences and a thin layer of smoke, so typical for Springbank.
Creamy, buttery, slightly sweet on light fruits, some spices - pepper, chilli and a delicate smoky side.
Medium long, shy sweetness covered by the spiciness of pepper, burning alcohol and some smoke.
- Tasty, great fruit notes and the Springbank character is also there, for 120 ¬ and more he does not beat me but not from the stool.
already from a distance a strong yellow-fruity sweet note, banana, mirabelle plum, some canned peach, from nearby then almonds, cereals, vanilla, some white pepper
a strong boost overripe banana, then marzipan, dark chocolate, pepper, salt, earth, some licorice (Salmiak licorice?)
long and strong, chocolate, pepper, nut, bitter almond
- Glad I just bought a sample
Citrus notes, green fruits, little grassy, marzipan and butter scotch
Little sweet, little flowerish, green fruits again
