  1. Archer scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Unfortunately, he leaves something behind in the finish, but otherwise a nice young Islay smoker.
    • Nose
      87 87
Clear smoky note, slightly greasy. Green apple and some lemon. Fresh grass cut. No overbearing, but no boring nose. Over time, the smoke will increase in intensity. Now with eraser abrasion and warm tar, salt and seaweed. Maritime.
    • Taste
      86 86
Dry onset with clear smoke and lemon. A woody note leaves a dry feeling on the tongue. On the one hand slightly sweetened mandarins, on the other hand tart herbs. Nutmeg, pepper. Some hay.
    • Finish
      85 85
Even if the smoke lasts long, the finish is rather short, while dry and lemony.

The 7-year-old single malt is Kilchoman's oldest bottling to date.
The single malt matured in fresh bourbon casks from Buffalo Trace.
    Smoke level: 50ppm
    • Nose
Phenolic smoke, fresh, maritime saltiness, light citrus notes, sweetness, herbs, oak, caramel and some hay.
    • Taste
      Smoky, fresh, sweet, salty, maritime
    • Finish
Long, ashy, smoky, short tingle, herbs, some oak.

So many good analyzes have already been written here that I can't really contribute any big news. In any case, the reviews also show that it is a very interesting and multi-layered drop. Just this much more: I also developed an aspect of fig between nose and palate, towards the finish I can detect an anise-like oiliness and clear crème brûlée as an additional element. - The finish costs one point in my rating: so-so, the smoke is clear, but the whole thing is a bit too harmless.

Very light in terms of color - closer to water.

      peat, medicine, sweetness, smoked, ground
    • Taste
      60 60
      black pepper, medicine, iodine, peat
    • Finish
      50 50
      too short, but very nice

    • Nose
      87 87
Sweet with a clear but still mild smokiness for a young Ileach, pine needles, orchard fruitiness, apple, pear, melon, sweet oranges, lemon, vanilla, slightly grassy, salted caramel and some cinnamon.
    • Taste
      86 86
The smokiness is somewhat drier here, charred wood, mildly ashy, black pepper, pine, salt, still sweet on fruit notes with sweet orange, lemon and lime.
    • Finish
      85 85
Long: remains sweet (almost honied), lemon, shifts to dryish wood char notes with some black pepper.

I've got nothing to add to Archer's adequate review, other then I've had a bottle of 2010 Vintage (bottled 2019) and this 2008 Vintage (bottled 2015) open at the same time.
The 2010 (9 years old) and this 2008 (7 years old) are very much alike. They are both incredibly good whisky's for a fair price.
The 2008 is more 'direct', but has more sherry cask influences making it a bit sweeter. If I had to choose I would go for the 2010. Just because it has this extra bit of depth that comes with the additional 2 years of age.

    21 + 22 + 22 + 21 = 86 ~ Already a lot of burnt wood in the aftertaste, and so very much the ringing molt

Again, there is a lot of potential, but still too young ...!

    • Taste
      fruity onset, herbs, spice (pepper), increasing smoke aromas, distinct metallic youth;

Really surprisingly soft, sweet and creamy for a young peated whisky, very pleasant!
    • Nose
Wood fire smoke, some peat, rubber. Also fruity notes, citrus. Vanilla-like sweetness. And hay.
    • Taste
Initially: Salmiak, liquorice. Very light tingling first, then very soft and creamy mouthfeel. Some peat, but also sweet, caramel. The fruity notes from the smell do not come back in the taste.
    • Finish
Soft, still very light pepper. Wood fire smoke again, now some citrus, and sweet, caramel. Mid-length.

  23. Calmar scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

A simple and uncomplicated talk, here are no successes at Kilhoman releases of a commercial fortress, whatever you do, slender, watery ones come out, and after all, barrels are somehow as good, so now only over 50%.
    • Nose
Restrained, moist peat, coals fire, charred birch bark, moss, carpentry workshop, solvent, freshly processed wood.
    • Taste
Watery, peat, light peppery wave, activated charcoal, sweet burnt sugar.
    • Finish
Spicy, warming, slightly burnt caramel, orange peel, coal, peat.

Wonderfully aromatic smoke rises in the nose, then actually attacks of citrus fruits. Later, bourbon vanilla gets stronger and stronger. In the taste young, fresh, beautiful sweetness. I do not find the peppery note. Always present the smoke that superimposed everything - yet discreetly. An absolutely convincing eight year old whisky!

the upward trend with every year maturity continues here seamlessly, which worries me however a little bit: every second year one year maturation on it, then we would be 2021 with the 10-year-old. I hope that something comes before ... at least as a single cask or something.
    • Nose
Compared to the 5 year old 2006er much rounder and more balanced, mint, orange, maritime, and beautiful, still very "clean" acting smoke fresh burning beech wood in the fireplace. Delicious!
    • Taste
Here is a huge difference noticeable, much more volume, really full mouthfeel, barely sharp, lots of vanilla, still rich smoke power, salt, and then fine oak spices, cumin, black pepper, bread dough. Afterwards a little bit of fruit. Delicious! Maybe reminds of a well matured Caol Ila.
    • Finish
rather long, ashes, pretzel sticks, crispbread.

Not bad at all. Peat is present, but the sweet / fruity is not outdone and counterbalance advantageously.
    • Nose
Very peaty, on dry smoke, hay, straw. A little dried grape and apricot behind, shy. Vanilla afterwards.
    • Taste
The reduction is quite noticeable at the beginning of the mouth, but this perception disappears as soon as the second sip. A peaty wave, dried fruits. Vanilla caramel, almost syrupy behind the smoke.
    • Finish
Long. A peppery smoke a little dry, and a spicy wave.
