Honey, vanilla, custard cream, yellow fruits, banana, unexpected fruitiness, very good.

The nose is the weakest part, that is to say, there barely is any. Very light vanilla notes, maybe. The palate is where the action is, and it is very pleasant on vanilla, oak spices and honey. Overall this is a good bourbon matured malt but nothing special.

    • Nose
Beautiful and pure Bourbon matured whisky! Honey, waxes, vanilla, sweet oak, quite aromatic, some underlying tropical fruits as well.
    • Taste
A bit thin here, still sweet, honeyed, a touch of dried mango, nonetheless quite enjoyable despite a tad simple.
    • Finish
Long, vanilla and sweet oak, toasted corn, a lot of caramel and honey.

  9. Oldpultnie scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Full nose of sweet barley, ripe fruits and vanilla.
    • Taste
Mouthfilling and rich (velvet). Soft vanilla and honey sweet. Spicing up in the back with black pepper. Nice palate and balance and nothing wrong to find in here.
    • Finish
Good medium finish with a little peppermint.

A little spirity, but full of flavours. Delightful, I would say maybe a 18 year old, bourbon cask

The problem with the Glencraig - Bottlings is that you have no reliable continuity. That is closely connected with the Lomond Stills installed at Glenburgie Distillery and the varying new make (complemented with the wood of course). I had different samples from 1968, and all of them were different in terms of quality. This one - although optical the same - was the best. A summerlike and fruity whisky with beginning old bottle flavour and a reminiscence of a distant barley field in summer. Very charming...

    ‘Exquisitely simple and yet not’

N: The brown label versions on Whiskybase indicate this as a 15 or 16yo WB/WB and that smells about right. Rather simple but alluring nose with some subtle depth, synonymous with the era. Theres a lovely, gentle sweetness, a curious Lakedistrict/candyshop fustiness that instinctively leads to the first sip.

T: Soft but rich mouthfeel=ful, stretching out like a silky/waxy vail of soft sweet> barley. Very Spey-like with its bitter=sour lemon notes and a honeyed/buttery oiliness to match. Exquisite arrival spoiled by an engulfing pepperiness thereafter, water or not.

F: Touches of bitter=sour-cream vanilla make this seem like a single grain at this point. Its headed towards an innocuous infinity with some heathery, ground black pepper trails following loosely behind.

C: Exquisitely simple. Theres trouble along the way mind but the arrival justifies its whole existence.

    Scores a C+
