The decanter says Special Malt and I in truth I think this is a vatted malt rather than a blended whisky..

An 80 proof  find, well worth buying, the whisky in this was distilled in the mid 1960`s.

Brilliant, I am very happy with this one.

For me this is a very successful bottling with a filigree nose and a very pleasant “old bottle flavor”, a mix of old wood, dust and bittersweet orange jam.

Overall not particularly complex, but very drinkable.
    • Nose
      88 88
sweet, malty, sugared orange jam, old dry wood, dusty, peppermint, some hairspray
    • Taste
      89 89
sweet, spicy, strong, English orange jam with these pieces of peel, dry wood, pepper, pleasant bitterness (from the orange peel in the jam)
    • Finish
      88 88
medium to long, pleasantly fruity bitterness, sweetened peppermint tea

Interesting "model of yesteryear"! What a fine Italian way of life;)
Really good, but of course nothing for the keg-strong spoiled.
    • Nose
      86 86
Honeydew melon with a hint of eucalyptus, peppermint oil, bananas drizzled with lemon juice and Sugus Suchard pineapple chewy candies.
    • Taste
      86 86
More slightly tart and spicy than fruity, from the beginning to the finish, with notes of honey remaining. Soft and harmonious.
    • Finish
      85 85
Somewhat stingy, sugared lemon and grapefruit flavors are now creeping in, but luckily it is neither too sour nor bitter.

Interesting nose, but all in all quite immature.  It seems to me that bottle maturation works in both ways:  Great, mellow stuff gets even finer and more balanced in the bottle with the decades while immature bottlings get more unbalanced over time...  I have not tried enough of such whiskies as that this is a statistically significant observation, but I will work hard to improve this base in the future...

The best about this dram is the nose: sweet, a little bit fruity and - of course - some nice OBF (old bottle flavour).  But both the palate and the finish are rather weakish and unbalanced, even a little bit bitter and drying in the end (so parts of the malts must have been significantly older than the stated 8 years).  One to nose, but not very enjoyable to sip...

Truly a unique piece, but not a masterpiece for me.
    • Nose
Wax, honey, caramel and candied orange
    • Taste
Very spicy, caramel, citrus, grain flavors and plum
    • Finish
medium length, sour with a little caramel

This was a sample courtesy of lincolnimp and a really nice one.
    • Nose
It has that new book smell to it, tupperware box , balsa wood , some candle wax and honey ,  apart from that , the nose was a bit dull .
    • Taste
Very warming with a lot of mixed spice ,grain coffee , cinder toffee and a little citrus .
    • Finish
Just a little too short with a touch of bitterness at the end but really satisfying , some butterscotch on the death .

The nose was not very expressive but the palate is lovely. I got this decanter on the strength of the 5 year blended being pretty decent. The extra abv is welcome and there must be some bottle ageing here.

I have tried loads of blends/vated malts and this is definitely one of the best.
    • Nose
The nose is discreet on this one, some toffee notes, marmalade, orange, a touch of Turkish Delight.

      The nose is light.
    • Taste
First impression is really good again on marmalade, candied sweets/fruits, dried peel, a little caramel, plum and lemon/strawberry sherbet.
    • Finish
      Quite long, sweet, tangy almost.
