Aroma: cherry liqueur, rotten fruit, sweet-sugary, molasses, very bright and energetic.

Taste: sweet, astringent, dead spoiled fruit, grapes and its bone, low-grade fortified wine.

Finish: repetition of taste, a slight bitterness is added, the binder continues, longer than average.

    Rating: 68

Bottom line: turned out to be quite a good drink! The level of not the worst fruit distillates, of course, it is difficult to make an assessment of this, but I think about 68 will be good, I had to try the much worse quality whiskey blend. Very bright and fruity drink, I think it is best to combine it with the same bright food, for example what is cooked on the grill. Pleasantly surprised!

N: The sherry cask finish brings a light funk. Otherwise there’s not a great deal going on here but a note of potato. That's a note i picked up from Echlinville ‘Ban Poitin’ that use 40% potatoes in their mash.
T: Weird, bathwater sherry and tadpoles!
    F: Weird, is this whiskey?
C: Not really happening. What is it? Glen-rough? Irish? Revealed! According to Serge, there are likely to be potatoes in this spirit.Scores a D[-]

Note by Serge Valentin from whiskeyfun.com:

Glendalough ‘Poitin Sherry Cask Finish’ (40%, OB, Irish, +/-2016)  This, I believe, is Glendalough’s own make. The idea of a finishing on some white spirit is a little strange but after all, I think Glenglassaugh already did that. Not sure they’ve been using potatoes as well as grains for this one, as was traditional in Ireland. Colour: bronze gold. Nose: oh no, this works. It’s got some rye character, plenty of bread of various sorts, and then rather caraway and a kind of spicy earthiness that works very well. Feels ‘American craft’ if you ask me. Mouth: we’re between Scandinavian aquavit and rye whiskey as well, the only part that troubles me a bit is this rather huge chocolaty and raisiny side, probably from the sherry cask. But the whole does work a treat. Finish: medium, on chocolate and soft curry. Comments: a good surprise. As usual, a higher strength would have been welcome, but this sure is a very good baby whiskey. I think I like it just as much as the sourced 13 yo, to tell you the truth. SGP:452 - 83 points.
