  1. Koning scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

The Linkwood character is still recognisable beneath the sherry, which is good case. It provides a two faced but balanced dram. Downsides are the sulfer and the fact it rather closes than develops with more time in the glass...
    • Nose
      88 88
Starts expressive with wet clay, sweet sherry, chocolate, mint and nutmeg. Becomes lighter after a while with floral notes, citrus fruits and honey.
    • Taste
      87 87
Milk chocolate, cacao and coffee, with some sulfur and mushrooms. Cherries and citrus fruits jump in, with some honey and walnuts.
    • Finish
      86 86
Rather long, again with chocolate. Fresh citrus fruits, sour cherries and quite earthy with some sulfur.

Unripe plum and pear with mint. Not impressive initially. After a while vanilla sugar and eventually quite a lot of coconut.
    • Taste
      89 89
Different. Leather, honey and cocoa. Water adds orange.
    • Finish
      87 87
      Nutty, but grassy as well.

Nice strong whisky, lots of alcohol initially. Fruity and sweet, very enjoyable.
    • Nose
      89 89
Very prominent alcohol immediately, fruity, and chlorine, citrus. Strong swimming pool-like nose dominates. Later on the chlorine disappears, more glue, vanilla, and alcohol gets lesser.
    • Taste
      90 90
Strong, lot of pepper, sweet and fruity. Citrus, honey, very intense, full body, oranges
    • Finish
      89 89
A little pepper still, full taste, peach, honey sweetness. Pretty long, a little sour underneath, citrus, lemon. Tobacco remains, and some sweet drop.

N: A nutty sherry cask turned eloquent with age.
T: Rich, intense nutty sherry fungal. Tasty sugars with a unique character slant born from all that slow maturation.
F: Waxy sherry with one spent match.
    C: Forgivably cask-heavy given its moorish consistency. Not hugely complex.Scores a B[-]

Tastingnotes from CadenheadNose: Rich sherry is immediately obvious. Raisins, figs and soft meaty notes. Then it becomes more orangey with faint cinnamon and nutmeg.
Palate: Lots of red fruits and much creamier than the nose suggests. Red apple skins with cranberry sauce and a hint of cocoa powder.

Finish: Delicate finish of strawberries; walnuts; toffee and dry sherry.

It’s not an extremely difficult whisky but it is very well-balanced. And if you let it stand for a while… It will be delicious!
    • Nose
A bit of mint or menthol and some fruits. A bit of caramel, but it is all quite restrained. Maybe I am too impatient… Yes, this needs some time, it’s really a big difference between a freshly poured dram and one that has had at least 30 minutes of time to breath. Much more fruits and especially apricots. Orange peels, a little bit of peach too. Lovely!
    • Taste
Sweet oranges, apricots and a touch of oak. I kind of get something like Schweppes in there. A kind of bitter freshness (if that makes any sense…) Some honey sweetness too. It’s much fresher on the taste then on the nose, very sweet and very easy to drink… But very good as well.
    • Finish
A mid-long finish, with oranges and apricots. Nice!

  16. Bishlouk scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

The Sherry, of course, is in no way overwhelming. This whisky has a character of its own, fruity and vegetal, sweet and greedy, balanced and seductive. The only (small) defect that I find him is that vegetal freshness that is too present at times; which prevents it from reaching the 90 according to my personal criteria.
    • Nose
Raisin, caramel, apricot. Very soon a freshness first mentholated, then floral, shows the tip of his nose. Then come yellow plum, peach compote, and a large ray of orange honey. A complex and evolving nose, frolicking quickly from one scent to another.
    • Taste
Yellow fruit compote mixed with liquid honey. Apricot, currants, yellow plum. Vanilla caramel as a guide. A mouth less complex than the nose, and especially less changeable (more classic, what), but which nevertheless does not miss attraction.
    • Finish
Long. The vegetal freshness resurfaces, now marrying green and dry wood. The woody sap remains for a moment stuck to the tongue. Scented green tea after a few sips.

Fabulous balance between sweet and dryer notes, very fruity for its age. Absolutely no rough edges on this at all.
    A real treat.
    • Nose
Touch of mint, stewed fruits and orange peel.
    • Taste
Orange jelly, quality Turkish delight, giant juicy Californian raisins, fruit compot and Galaxy caramel bars.
    • Finish
Tinned peaches, hints of strawberry with more creamy caramel.
