Goddamn what a nose, this one. Packed flower meadows; honey through which you can smell the supplier. Man, what a party. The first nip is immediately dry and fairly sharp - 57% - but softens immediately. The high ABV gives what I call "molasses" taste that you often have - and numbs the tongue. Just be patient then, save a little spit and chew well - free to Koot and Bie - then an adult guy sprays the moped. That's just how it is. Too strong for my taste. Then just a little water. In the meantime, I am doing my best to keep the mesh flies on my laptop screen from my glass. The water brings relief and even a trace of smoke. Vanilla is more likely now; also wet oak as a moist cellar full of barrels of sherry, Then a new layer is tapped, green herbs - sage, rosemary, all very subtle.
This is fine whisky and I have another sample - jippie!

The fun thing about CA is that they tend to bottle more unusual profiles as well. And that’s exactly the case with this 20yo Bunna
    • Nose
A rather a-typical nose. It’s got quite some floral flavors to it which I find rather odd for Bunna. The raw Bunna character is translated very differently after 20 years inside the cask. Fennel, lime, colonial furniture (polished oak), breath of see air and it’s quite musty/dusty.
    • Taste
Hmmm tastewise this is a bit of a disappointment. The initial mouthfeel is rather tart. After that it’s very salty and alcoholic. That’s quite a big ABV punch. After 20 years the alcoholic integration is rather poor. 6ml water on a 2cl dram makes it very creamy. It seems to be very spirit driven. The butter aroma’s that appear now, confirm this feeling to me. The palate reveals this one has been matured on an inactive cask.
    • Finish
A medium length Finish. It gives freshly grated nutmeg, licorice sticks like you were able to buy in a candy store and also a chalky touch at the end.

An odd Bunna. Not a beginners dram. Unfortunately the taste can’t meet up with the nose and finish. Otherwise this would have been a deserving but different Bunna expression which would have had a buy recommendation. But as it is, a generous sample is enough for me.
