Still later, bottle almost empty, open 3 years, in a line up with Islay whiskys, I find that the Caol Ila has little smell and very strange: first red fruit, later green.
The taste is a bit light, reserved, perhaps too diluted. Dark chocolate, laurel liquorice, nice and malty. Subtle, but is that what I'm looking for in an Islay whisky?
No combination with dry sausage, bitter.
