This expression never disappoints, but I'm still waiting for a new batch that matches the complexity and smoothness of batch 8.
    • Nose
Mango, peach, pineapple, papaya, peat, cherry and vanilla. Water makes it softer with more peach.
    • Taste
Mango, peat, cherry, caramel, pepper, papaya, pineapple and vanilla.
    • Finish
Peat, mango, caramel, pineapple and cherry.

Nose: Notes of Cocoa, some peat, plum / raisin and notes of sherry.
Taste: From the first sip a hit of sweet peat with light notes of raisins. A little peppery in taste in subsequent attempts.
Rating: 87 | 100 - Quite long finish with a smoky sherry aftertaste with wine notes. The described Springbank is not particularly complex in taste.

    Springbank 12yo Batch 11
Casktype: 70% Sherry Casks & 30% Bourbon Casks
    Strength: 53.8% Vol.

Smell the fragrance: At first, it was a little restrained. Slowly the smell of shoe polish and lime volatilized. Herbs, a little bit of pear blossom sweetness, familiar minerals, although mixed with a few strands of motor oil, the whole is exceptionally clear. Fruit pie, honey, fine salt, cheese powder, a little grapefruit vinegar, dried grass leaves. As the cup wakes up, the smell becomes more gentle, coordinated and comfortable. The fleshy fruits, cheese desserts, and coconut meat weave the curtain, and the minerals at this moment are like stars. 88 points for nose at the beginning, 89 after waking up
Taste: pear, cheese tart, flowers, pepper, ginger tea, woody spices, and the aroma of essential oils is very strong. After that, the peat is gently brushed, temperate fruits, minerals, spring water, and a bit of bitterness of grapefruit.
Body: Medium-bodied, firm, without looseness and overwhelming feeling, good oily finish. Final rhyme: long, with a bitterness remaining, honey orange peel, lightly cooked cheese, campfire, coal

    Nose: 89/100
    Palate: 91/100
    Body: 88/100
    Finish: 88/100
    Overall: 89/100

The springbank from batch 11 is amber in glass with a wonderful 53.8% alcohol content and 12 years maturation in 70% sherry and 30% bourbon barrels.

In the nose it is initially much more subdued than expected and not a flavor bomb. Gradually, fruit notes and a pleasant sweetness come from the glass. The fruity notes are difficult to grasp ... a few sprinkles of lemon juice and orange zest for fresh and sour flavors, the sherry barrel is noticeable, but more in the direction of apples and peaches and not with boiled dark fruits. Since I expected more, the bourbon barrel comes into its own only with hints of peach and papaya and the sherry barrel seems to have been less active and brings spiciness but no dark, heavy fruit notes. There is some vanilla sugar, a few drops of honey and cinnamon over the fruit. Dark chocolate with whole hazelnuts gradually becomes more and more present, in the background a slightly earthy note resonates and combines with a little salt. So far I am rather disappointed, the power of the aromas reminds me more of whiskys with 10% less alcohol.

In the mouth at first a little weaker than I would have expected for the high alcohol content ... but then it starts. The whisky pushes vigorously through the mouth, spices with pepper, nutmeg, a little rubber, a hint of ash, salt and chewed coffee beans dominate and are accompanied by a subtle fruitiness with bright fruits and citrus flavors. The salt creates a slightly maritime character, the peat is much stronger than in the nose. Slight dryness is noticeable, but everything in the pleasant area. After the first sip, a little sweet shortbread is added when smelling, very tasty! With a second sip, the pepper becomes even more intense, ginger sharpness sizzles on the tongue, the dryness in the mouth increases significantly ... The oak becomes more noticeable, a pleasant earthiness leads to the finish.

The finish is characterized by pepper, ash, some rubber, damp forest floor and a dry mouthfeel. The fruitiness and sweetness resonate discreetly, but are only the fifth wheel on the car. The finish is medium long and a little too dry for me.

Well, what can I say? A little too astringent and on the nose the whisky was too weak on the chest. Nevertheless, he has a lot of what he likes. The aromas gain significantly after the first sip, the whisky becomes sweeter when smelling and notes of caramel and sweet pastries are added. And while the whisky in the nose is getting better and better, it gets more peppery and drier with every sip. Difficult for me to leave a review.

He gets 86/100 points from me.

The 12CS in the middle batch is really cost-effective.
    • Nose
Sea salt, rubber, orange peel, cheese, smoked, dried animal fats, spices, leather.
The fruit flavor in the direction of the orange peel is the finishing touch, probably similar to a pinch of salt with dessert.
    • Taste
      Full, oily and slightly burning.
Salty, sesame oil, Japanese tofu, bitter almond, herbal wine, fruit.
    • Finish
Long, bitter almonds, green smoke, salty oil.

This one is really disappointing for me.  As mentioned earlier this just has a terrible burnt rubber, burt/melted plastic in the microwave funk that I can't shake.  I even tried to make a unique Springbank Single Malt out of this by mixing 3 parts Longrow to 1 part 12 CS and the rubber funk smell and taste was still overpowering the peat of the Longrow.  I've had this one open for months now and still no improvement.  Probably going to have to give this one away.   I still have a  closed bottle on the shelf that I will send to auction to try and see if I can't at least break even on this one.

  10. Mannix65 scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

classic jump bench with typical complexity - no beginner
    • Nose
Vanilla, cloves, cinnamon, salt, some swimming pool, vocal sherry, a breeze of smoke and charcoal, wet earth - overall rather discreet
    • Taste
more intense than in the nose with a lot of salt, some algae, sherry, oak, a trace of soap - with water it is sweeter
    • Finish
dry, salty, maritime, lingers for a long time in mouth and throat

This creamyness combined with lemons, salt, traces of dark dried fruit and spiciness is excellent
    • Nose
Woodiness, caramel, vanilla, dark dried fruits, creamy candies, nuts, earthy, a bit of dulcimer, dry wood scent, a little salt, spices, and maybe even matolin
    • Taste
Caramel, vanilla, woody, sherry, nuts, shining salty, and more pronounced citrus. Late earthy, raisins, light sweetness and growing spiciness - overall creamy and big taste
    • Finish
A lot of cream with caramel, sherry with spicy chocolate, earthy and fine spicy finish

Tasted with quite some water and 5 minutes of rest to open it up.

Good? Yes, absolutely. Very good on it's own, even. But with the spectacular batch 8 and legendary batch 9 in mind, this is quite average. I agree there is too much sherry and too little bourbon in this.
    • Nose
Earth, rust, rubber, vanilla sweetness, yellow fruit, some red fruit, salt
    • Taste
Sweet, earth, yellow fruit, vanilla, salt, red fruit sweetness
    • Finish
Medium long, salty, some Springbank/Longrow peat, vanilla in waves, metallic rust

  15. Dram Dracula scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

An okay dram, and a disappointing Springbank for me. The sherry casks in these modern springbanks usually impart too much of a rubbery component to the nose and palate, and this is no exception. Probably would be better with less sherry and more bourbon casks.

Taste the Whisky Festival 2016 within the Springbank masterclass. Very good whisky.
    • Nose
Mighty, spicy, fruity (most probably red apples), orange, peaty veil, cloves. (88 b)
    • Taste
It perfectly matches the scent. It's just a little fruity, but it's all about peat. Spicy, graceful and warm. Dozvuk is dry, smoky. (88 b)

  18. Palindrome scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

Lovely bottling. Creamy mouth feel, wonderful toffee in the nose and a full delicious palate with a few complex developments. Strong long sweet finish that has a few savory tricks up its sleeve. I'm holding off scoring this one for now but I will say there are a few wet blankets on this page. I tend to rate based upon price and general class. For its class, this batch is quite good, I feel. And, no, I wouldn't compare it with a Springbank 18 Single Cask Refill Sherry that I have. That would be ludicrous.  I will add my rating very soon, and when I do, I will retract my 'wet blanket' comment. It is certainly better than Batch 9, which is greatly overrated. With water, it shines. Without, it is needlessly bitter. And why drink this without water except to gauge it for the adding of water? I feel this is a satisfying morning dram although I never go over half an ounce before breakfast.

Unveiled in mid-2015, this edition of
Springbank's very popular 12 Year Old Cask Strength was aged in a
combination of 70% Sherry casks and 30% bourbon casks before being
bottled at 53.8% ABV. Plenty of gorgeous Campbeltown character to this
one - big spice, smoke and wafts of coastal air, carried along by subtle
hints of brown sugar and chewy toffee. Ace.

The tasting notes for this August 2015 release are:
Nose: There’s a saltiness similar to Campbeltown Loch fishing creels, a typical Springbank maritime style. Spicy notes are very dominant: cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon sticks and some ground black pepper.
Palate: Lip licking - thickly buttered gingerbread, sticky toffee pudding and crème brûlée. Cream and butter really coat the mouth in classic Campbeltown style.
Finish: Dry finish ending with barbecue smoke and chicory sauce.
