has delicious flavors and is good to drink
I'm still looking for quality and think about:
    the alcohol note 
    the bourbon notes
    • Nose
      spicy rosy sherry
      some bitter herbs
      easily cucumber barrel
the spicy sherry is pervaded with an adhesive note and vanilla the nose is relatively easy to knit
    • Taste
      Start pleasant
      Chocolate and glue
      raisins
      Alcohol note on the tongue
      on the palate comes wood
      in short:
Raisin chocolate with alcohol note and glue in the start
      the nose continues
    • Finish
      medium
      easy alcohol
      Chocolate, raisins (sherry)
      barrel
      Herbs
      enjoyable

Tried it in a tasting and came out as the clear winner for me. With a little effort I was able to get hold of another bottle. Incredibly exciting aroma. For me an extreme sherry bomb. Let's see how long the bottle stays closed... I'm not very optimistic ;)

The first GD bottled for Whiskybase was a great one. This seconde one however, not so much.

It needs time. A lot of time. Let it breath in your glass for at least 30 minutes or you will be very disappointed. After that it opens up and you can enjoy a decent GlenDronach.

Of all the single cask GlenDronachs I've tasted, this one I enjoyed least. It's not bad if you wait for 30 minutes, but it never becomes very good...

If you pour and drink the score would be 82. Wait 30 minutes and it gets a 86.

  5. Dede scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Not grand, but not ugly either.
    • Nose
The nose is very nice, on milk caramel, blood orange, raisins. The wood is discreet.
    • Taste
On the palate, the alcohol is very well integrated, but the aromas lack power. We stay on a very classic sherry, full of raisins, old plum too.
    • Finish
The finish is quite long, without excessive bitterness.

  6. greg_0277 scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

    Typical nose on dried fruits.
On the palate, very dry, slightly sulfur.
Slight woody bitterness on the finish which would have brought a bit of liveliness if the whole had been more delicious.
No major major faults, but I still have a clear preference for olorosso cask.

  7. Loch Lochy scored this whisky 80 points Expert Senior

Can not understand the high scores. He's just pretty one-dimensional and boring. In the taste too much wood, which covers everything else with its bitterness. You can drink it, but why?

  10. Lakerfield scored this whisky 91 points Expert Senior

There's a lot going on and although quite heavy on the savory notes, it keeps a very nice harmony. The sweeter notes are a little driven to the back due to this. I had a hard time believing this was matured in a Pedro Ximenez cask, as those are generally overly sweet. Good '95 although they aren't as loved.
    • Nose
Nice balance between roasted and smoky aromas, dark fruits and malty goodness. This is remarkably similar to the 18yo Allardice but much more intense. The nose leans more towards Oloroso than Pedro Ximenez. Plums, raisins, orange zest, strawberry, pear, pineapple, dry sherry, dark chocolate, toffee, fudge, oak, vanilla, coffee, roasted hazelnuts, smoke, malt, old books, balsamic vinegar, ham, anise, chili pepper, a little sulphur and wet forest soil. Delicious and surprisingly harmonious.
    • Taste
Creamy texture, and very easy to drink. I've had some 43%'ers that were a lot hotter. More of the nose and that's a good thing. Sweet bbq and soy sauce, sour milk, sticky sherry, walnuts, roasted coffeebeans, ginger, vanilla, dried apricot, plums, figs, apple cider, jaffa cakes, salty caramel, treacle, espresso, musty basement and some smoke. Superb.
    • Finish
Long! Medium sweet, lovely dried fruits and quite malty. The savory notes have disappeared, wish I could have some of that in the finish. You can't have it all though.

deep golden brown colourfull raisin ... sweet dried fruit ... sherry warm sweet ... malty sherry rich aftertaste

A warm nose, with endless waves of dark chocolate, coffee. Like being a liliputian at the foot of a chocolate fountain. Caramelized almonds, cashews. This nose is hypnotic. Perhaps the best nose I have ever had in a whisky. In the mouth, we find all these delicious aromas with a very nice integration of alcohol. I would not have enough of these 2 cl to be satisfied. This one will stay a long time in my memory.

    Enthusiasm 5/5

Water does not do him any good. A very good Glendro that lacks a bit of originality and complexity.
    • Nose
Figs, plums. Leather and wood. Basically the big classic sherry. Slight buttery and salty touch. Strong enough in alcohol.
    • Taste
Oily in the mouth. On black fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry, fig) mainly. Dried fruits (grapes) All wrapped in wood bark and sprinkled with cinnamon, cocoa powder and coffee. One could almost believe a rum in the mouth. Always leather and a little bitterness. A slight hint of sulfur.
    • Finish
Long finish on sherry and black fruits with hot sugar (caramel).

  15. Sonett scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Nose was more like an olorosso cask but the PX came thru in the taste
    • Nose
Raisins, figs, chocolate, wood and wet leather
    • Taste
Sweet sherry, liquid raisins, plums, warm and spicy
    • Finish
Medium long with dark chocolate, sherry, canned plums

  16. St. Pauli scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Sulfur, raisins, old leather, prunes, figs, cereals, milk chocolate.
    • Taste
Sweet, but also slightly sour. It's quite hot actually. Honey, cherry raisins, plums, cereal and this time dark chocolate.
    • Finish
Pepper, honey, bitter chocolate, orange, cherry, plums and mint.

The ripening on sherry casks is very prominent. Chocolate and red fruit dominate.
    • Nose
Learn! And clear sherry influences, red fruit, raisins. Also hazelnut and chocolate, Nutella.
    • Taste
Spicy, peppery, dark chocolate, raisins. Very warm taste! Full, oil-like structure.
    • Finish
Long, slightly peppery, sherry, red fruit, chocolate. Dryer

Not too pronounced, but still good. Maybe a refill cask.
    • Nose
Quite fruity on oranges, lemons, strawberries, blueberries, raisins, dates. Some cloves and ginger, slight buttery notes, salty popcorn.
    • Taste
Feels quite thin. Orange liqueur, brown sugar, apricots, peaches, raisins, apples, light fruits dominate here. Orange fanta.
    • Finish
Medium long, slightly sweet, slightly sour, slightly spicy. Think Fanta with a pinch of ginger.

    IMO
a straightforward, well-matured GD single cask. The initial asking price was high, but in relation to the current batch releases, this is becoming better value by the month. Good tertiary profile as well, without too much of a sherry coating.
    • Nose
      Oh
this is unfiltered and undiluted Glendronach sherrybombness. Typical PX notes of heavy sweetness paired with tannic chocolate sauce, cinnamon and cocktail
cherries. This release was actually not universally well-received – but it can’t be because of this nose. I suspect the 150€ price tag in middle 2015 had more to do with it. Herbal candy, waxy parchment, and polished leather add my general association of PX casks and salted caramel – with a dash of lime cordial!
    • Taste
      Dry
and juicy. Coats your tongue with oily goodness. All kinds of black forest fruit – blue berries and cake drenched in plum sauced – with brandy spilled all over it! Oh-so nice! No cask strength in sight to be honest.
    • Finish
Medium-long. Dark berries, dried fruit, some caramelized toffee, and sugared cappuccino.

  23. Defeatless scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Nose: Big hit. Old leather, sherry, dark brow apple-syrup, quit a blast of alcohol. It needs water to open up and tame down I suppose. With water: The same but with more spices in there.

Taste: Dark, dark, dark tones of sherry. There is a warm welcome of a load of dried fruit, raisins, even some raisin cake. Some tannins though. With water: doesn't change much, just less aggressive and a bit more hardy.

Body: absolutely good. Nice thick and oily.

Finish: medium-long Besides the sherry hit, there are hints of wood in here. Yet also there are some tannins in here. They show up better with water.

    Price: Quite hefty

Presentation: Don't know this was a sample from a sampleswap with Squaadgras.

Good Glendronach expression, but not comparable to a lot of Single Cask bottlings from Glendronach concerning the quality. That is my opinion.

    Concerning price/performance ratio: 8/10 (2016)
    • Nose
Sherry, hazelnut, orange zest, dates, apricot, brown sugar, rasins.
    • Taste
Sherry, rasins, dates, glue drops, a touch of bitterness and a bit dry.
    • Finish
Medium. Sherry. Quite a unidimensional finish. There aren't a lot of dark fruits or even chocolate.

  26. thijs100 scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Good stuff. I know a lot of people who avoid Pedro Ximenez-matured Glendronach, but I seem to quite like them.
    • Nose
Sweet, sweet sherry notes, obvious PX influence. Luscious red fruits. Raisins and ripe figs. Marmelade made from forest fruits. A touch of soy sauce.
    • Taste
Sweet and spicy (touch of mint and white pepper). Syrup-y. Ripe figs, red grapes and licorice. Lots of plums too, and really dark chocolate.
    • Finish
Long, sherried and fairly spicy. A tad drying.

good one, but not so good for the price, especially there are many exellent bottles by Glendronach; however, really appreciate WB for sharing the sample, slainte!
    • Nose
very dronachy-, bit rubbery, fruity, orange, oak, and bit alcoholic
    • Taste
caramel, toffee, the bitter of tannin dominates the palate and after taste still linger with bitter and dry
    • Finish
medium, bit short than expectation, but really impressed by the bitter of tannin

Nice dram but there are better GD SC out there. Nevertheless I am glad that I have it tried.
    • Nose
      Fruity (oranges/peaches/raisins), young oak, pepper.
    • Taste
fruity as the nose and oak. Nothing real special but nice to drink!

Great whisky - but I find 150 euros then a few groschen too much. Overall, but very delicious.
    • Nose
Sherry in the foreground, Sultainen, Orange - relatively sweet but somehow "old".
    • Taste
Sharp start - then a sweet and heavy syrup. Immediately afterwards echoes of bitter chocolate.

In the throat a pleasant dryness.
    • Finish
Furthermore, the sweetness, the fruit comes out, then subordinates to the chocolate note. It remains a long, warm finish with slight oak notes and the wonderful dark chocolate on the tongue.

  36. Cicero did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

The aroma in the nose is more open with a few drops of water than pure in the taste, however, if one refrains from strong bizzling at the tip of the tongue in the beginning, he likes me undiluted better whether pure or with a little water, the mouthfeel that remains after swallowing is fantastic: Sweetness, fruit, chocolate, slightly oily, it takes in the entire mouth
    • Nose
      full of sherry, as expected
Raisins and carnations peppered with cloves
sweet but also dusty at the same time
old wooden furniture on a dusty, dry loft
with water: a few drops of water are good for him the flavors become softer and at the same time "more tangible"
    • Taste
      Buzzing on the tongue
      a heavy dark sweetness
the sweetness continues to spread, syrup
Milk chocolate with a dash of bitter cocoa

      with water:
      much milder
but unfortunately, the flavors are also weaker
a slight alcoholic tingling sensation remains
    • Finish
Sweetness, fruit and chocolate long and dreamlike

  37. BeatF scored this whisky 86 points Photo Moderator

Already the color shows a considerable sherry influence, During the blind tasting I estimated the age to 20 years and was delighted, for once not to have missed completely ... Influence of heavy sherry casks results in figs, dates and other oriental gifts. This is really no everyday drop, it must be enjoyed in due peace.

Lots of sherry influence here, almost like drinking a strengthened PX. Quite a nice dram, a bit sweet for my tastes.
    • Nose
Red fruits. Ripe figs. Bit of varnished wood. After shave (just generic). Bay rum. Cinnamon. An almost rye like spicey note. Some raisin bread.
    • Taste
Thick glue. Rich wood. Date honey. Almonds.
    • Finish
Medium long. Cough syrup. Figs. Almonds. Sherry funk.

  42. Glennie scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

    Nose:
Quite restrained, but with the classical sherry notes. Dried fruit like figs
and dates. Also notes that comes with significant ages, such as
tobacco/leathery notes. Some brown sugar and fudge in the background. Not so
many spices as expected. Not a full blown Christmas cake as you often has with sherried
    whiskies.
    Taste:
A bit more spicy than the nose indicated. Clove and some pepper. A hint of cinnamon.
Sweet and dry at the same time. Brown caramelized sugar sweet. Does that make
    sense? Bitter chocolate.
    Finish:
Medium to long. The sweetness and spices doesn’t stay around for that long. But
the chocolate like bitterness does. Quite a long time in fact and quite
    pleasant too.
    A
bit of water brings the full potential out in this one. I only tested a 3 cl
sample so mi options for experimenting with water and time in the glass was
limited. After the initial taste I added a bit of water and it improved. However,
for the last centiliter or so I added another tiny drop, and that kind of
killed it. So I suspect you should proceed with care. A good single malt, but
actually not much better than their 18 yo or 15 yo. Bottom line: Really good,
but not good enough to justify the price. Glad I bought a sample before buying
    a bottle.

Nose: Glendronach typical sherry with light estery and gluey notes
makes the start. Baked dates and figs. Marmelade and orangepeel followed
by dark cherrys, jam and a little tobacco give this dram a little
macallanish attitute. The sherry is getting dryer and dryer driven by
orange and Almond peel. Again this was a really good cask (no wonder)
binging a lot of glendronachian old shool leather, paper cartridge and
    dry Curracao.Taste:
Very strong start with strong and sweet hazelnut and peanut pureè and
sun drying grapes. Very sweet over all plum and apricot jam. Maraschino
and over ripe Cherrys followed by a hint of long pepper, a little
cinnamon and nutmeg. In the Backgroung the feeling of a high quality but
little spiritty barrique Grappa appears. Verry noble and elegant. Quite
a long and sugary finish with old oakwood, candies orange and medium
bitter chocolate. Incredibly smoothness and hints of old paper come with a little water.Points: 90

Somehow overpowering, but still very good whisky.
    • Nose
Intensive sherry aroma with prunes and cigar tobacco at first nosing. Dark chocolate and Maggi sauce. In addition there is some nutmeg, dried oregano and thyme. Very nice.
    • Taste
Sweet and bold liquorice taste at first mouthfeel, then a full sherry flavour with plum butter and dark chocolate when swallowed.
    • Finish
Very long and sherried, hot and spicy with a bitter, dry and sour aftertaste.

I like the old-school taste profile, but it lacks complexity and the nose is a bit disappointing. All in all I like the other '95ers that I've tasted (all Oloroso) better, and the same certainly holds for the previous 1993 release by Whiskybase. Not worth 150 euros for me.
    • Nose
Roasted hazelnut, raisin, cherry, caramel, milk chocolate, peanut and rose perfume. A whiff of vinegar. Pretty shy.
    • Taste
Suddenly quite some plum, almost 70's style. That's a big plus. A lot of hazelnut paste as well. Furthermore cherry, bramble and pepper.

Nose: starts in a heavyweight, bloated style, not entirely my favourite, with a certain old blend character and some oxtail broth. Big toffee notes, balsamic syrup and toasted pastry. Hazelnuts and prunes. After breathing I get some nicer, brighter hints of grapes and apricot jams, but they don’t seem to last. Bugger. Mouth: again a little overweight, syrupy with plenty of prunes and gooey chocolate. Liquorice, a lot of burnt toast and hints of bitter oranges. Reminds me of a burnt moelleux. Cinnamon, chilli and coffee roast. Finish: long, mixing syrupy notes, chocolate and oak spices.

Well, I’ve seen other 1995s that were similar and that I had difficulties with – even though they were applauded by many others. Too meaty and chocolatey on the nose, too much burnt notes on the palate. I think the previous 1993 for Whiskybase had more fruits, more sparkle and more quality.

What a very nice PX Cask.

It's a very heavy Malt with notes of Coffee, dark chocolate and dried dark fruits.

A bit of honey and roasted oak.

No bad wood notes, as I like it.

Perfect for the colder days in fall and winter!
