A very nice single cask from John Paul which reminds me of very old Laphroaig's. Not so much the intensity of peat and smoke but more to the richness, layering and complexity. A whisky with a slightly maritime character. Compared to the standard peated version (the John Paul Edited) this is a lot more complex and interesting. An absolute must!

    • Nose
A rich, full, round, balanced and fairly complex whisky with hints of subtle sweet smoke, earthy peat, soft medicinal tones, (reminds me of a very old Laphroaig), hint at sea salt, banana, pear, apple, passion fruit, caramel, green walnut, caramel, vanilla, toffee, grass, hay, bay leaf, cinnamon, white pepper, aniseed, hint to cumin seed, salty toffee, licorice, red fruits, prunes, cashew nuts, grape seeds, mineral notes, aniseed and rich honey.
    • Taste
A rich, balanced, full-bodied, charming and complex whisky with notes of sweet smoke, earthy peat, wet ground, old books, oak, licorice, rosewood, banana, red fruit, red apple, plums, grains, mango? (maybe just the peel), malt, orange liqueur, cloves, armagnac, cinnamon, black pepper, aniseed, hint to cumin, forest honey, floral notes, mineral notes, oak and soft tannins
    • Finish
A long, rich and slightly drying finish with subtle notes of smoke, peat, salt, honey, oak, spices and slightly bitter tannins.

    Tasting Notes by Van Zuylen:

    Color: gold.

Nose: first free light aromas of earthy peat smoke, salt and camphor, followed by sweet notes of banana, passion fruit, vanilla, caramel and walnuts.

Taste: sweet entrance with hints of red apples, mango, toffee, honey and maltose, with spicy notes of black pepper, cloves and cinnamon. Everything is veiled by soft notes of peat smoke.

Finish: In the fairly long finish, he has fine-dry notes of oak.
