Nose

Peat, blueberry, cranberry, caramel, smoked ham, gingerbread, pineapple and a whiff of sulphur. With water some apple.

Taste

Peat, blackberry, caramel, cranberry and pear.

Finish

Peat, dark chocolate, cherry, caramel and curry.

Nose

Pur: ein eher scheuer Vertreter der 2004er Ledaigs, sicherlich dreckig und böse genug um als Ledaig wahrgenommen zu werden, aber der Sherry hat doch seine Spuren hinterlassen. Schön Karamellige Süße mit Rosine und speckiger Fruchtnote. Nur leicht maritim und salzig. Schön und eher rund, was in diesem Kontext vielleicht nicht gerade als Kompliment zu werten ist. Mit Wasser: Zuckerwatte, verspielter, mehr Malz, tut ihm gut, wirkt jetzt nicht mehr so dumpf.

Taste

Pur: nicht zu scharfer, schön wuchtiger Antritt, die Nase hätte etwas lascheres vermuten lassen. Kann hier voll überzeugen. ölige Textur, dunkler Honig, verbrannte Rote vom Grill, etwas Curryketchup drüber und salzige Pommes. Lecker! Mit Wasser: am Anfang noch süßer, dann mehr Eiche, mehr salzige Sherryfrüchte. Kann man machen.

Finish

lang, salzig und trocken.

2004er Ledaigs enttäuschen nicht. Hier ein medium sherrylastiger, vielleciht dadurch etwas gewöhnlicher Kandidat, der mit Wasser etwas spritziger wird.

Bruichladdich-like dirty earth, metallic, peat, ash, cigar smoke, bacon, salt, red fruit, spices

Taste

Strong, ash, sweet peat, tobacco, smoke, spices, salt, and then red fruit

Finish

Quite long and only slightly drying in the end. Red fruit comes forward, then gets pushed back by the lingering ash, peat, spicy bacon, salt and smoke

Comments

Excellent! One of the strongest whisky I've ever tasted. Adding water is strongly recommended to get access to all flavours. I added some 10+ drops of water in about 2ml of whisky.

Oh I have missed that dirty Ledaig smell. Leather (much more than the other casks if I remember correctly), salty smoked bacon, tobacco, pepper and sherry notes every now and then. Great!

Taste

Dirty sherry is there!! With a lot of tobacco ash! In the back you get decent plums from the sherry notes but

Finish

Very long salty finish with sherry candies and pepper.

So difficult to put it among the other casks.. It is much better than the 2005's no doubt but not as good as the 900179 & 900177 from my point of view as it is more ashy and dirty and I am missing the fruity notes somehow. But still a great stuff!

Big dirty sherry nose. Smoked beef. Ox tongue in mustard sauce. Creme brulee. Cherry cigar.

Taste

Big mouthfeel. Ash. More dirty sherry. Dry grass. Parsley. Salt.

Finish

Long. Golden syrup. Sticky sherry. Cayenne pepper. Cinnamon. Light ash and wood smoke.

Comments

This was a really complex dram, fill of smoky, meaty and fruity notes. Really a lovely show of how Ledaig can be so good without much maturation. It really worked well with the sherry.

One of the typical 2004 SV Sherry Ledaigs.
Fine smoke of fireworks, deep sherry notes. A perfect standard for these Ledaigs.
