Yet another top-notch sherry bomb from Cadenhead, this time bottled at a slightly younger age (compared to the recent 20+ year old Highland Park, Glenrothes etc), but from a distillery that produces spirit well-suited to a sherry cask. Again, the balance between the spirit and the sherry is spot on (Cadenhead really do know when to bottle casks at their peak!), with plenty of lightly floral and fruity notes from the spirit allowed to come through without being entirely masked by the rich, deep sherry. They must have been a first class sherry casks too, as the sherry notes are rich, creamy and fruity throughout (from nose to finish), but not overly cloying or drying. Lovely!Tasting notes from Cadenhead:
Brandy soaked raisins. Vanilla flavoured tobacco and prunes. Quite stunning on the nose.
Baked bananas and brown sugar. Light soya sauce and quite meaty.
Lots of dark rich honey. The sherry cask is really in control here.
Creamy with rich sherry notes. Soft spice with honey and soft salty notes making a nice surprising appearance.
The rich fruity notes linger right to the very end.
