Whisky Reviews for Invergordon 1972 G&C

  1. MaltMartin scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

One of the many Invergordon's 1972 of the last few years. In my view one of the better ones. In particular the palate is rich and round.
    • Nose
Baked bananas and dried coconuts for a start. Tangerines and gooseberries as well. Fudgy notes of butterscotch and sticky toffee pudding. Fresh pencil shavings. Floral notes at the background
    • Taste
Wow, unexepectedly creamy with a full mouth texture. Lots of sweetness of honey and vanilla. Caramel. Some nuttiness and sandalwood. Milk chocolate. Quite complex with multiple layers.
    • Finish
Medium long. Soft spices of nutmeg and white pepper. Cinnamon and a little liquorice. Very well balanced.

It is nice and easy to drink but I like more happening in my whisky than this. I have to accept the difference to single malts and it is taking me a little time.
    • Nose
Smells like a bag of Highland toffee, vanilla, Jam sponge, a little orange blossom but mainly vanilla , caramel and toffee.
    • Taste
Fizzy and syrupy on caramels, slight meatiness and a very pleasant sweetness.
    • Finish
      Approaching medium.

  4. Falnor scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

Great, just great these old and rich grains.
    • Nose
A lovely sweet toffee and warm caramel. It can take and it should take you a while before the first ship. Soft citrus, candy and pecil shavings. Yeah quite mesmerizing.
    • Taste
Holy Fudge! Some oranges and mandarins. Not too fresh, but sweet and rich. Very creamy and like custard. Milk chocolate and nuts like almonds. A soft candy that carries a long way.
    • Finish
I Would've expected a lot more drying oak or other woody notes. This is over 42 years old! Luckily the sweetness and rich flavours remains till the nice ending.
