  1. FritzeKrautman scored this whisky 78 points Expert Senior

Has nothing that makes the Japanese often interesting. If you are at the beginning of your whiskey career, it may be fine. Once you've gained some experience, you inevitably wonder why you're wasting your time and liver capacity.
    • Nose
Alcohol, malt, overripe pear, slightly peach, a bit woody.
    • Taste
Sweet, spicy, pear, a bit bitter. Hardly any strength.
    • Finish
Short, unspectacular finish with cereals, light fruit and slight bitterness.

  2. Rody024 scored this whisky 73 points Expert Junior

Smooth, easy drinking whisky. Quite one-dimensional and on the sweet side. Perfect for a daily dram or as an introduction to ('Japanese') whisky.
    • Nose

      Intensity - 7,5
      Richness - 6

Toffee, marzipan, ethanol, vanilla, caramel and a touch of gingerbread.
    • Taste
      70 70
      Intensity - 6
      Richness - 6
Slightly coating mouthfeel, although it appeared thin throughout.

      Toffee, gingerbread, vanilla and marzipan.
    • Finish

      0-5 seconds.
Short & simple finish with sweet tones of caramel.

    Appearance:
Very pale straw, almost whiter than yellow.

    Nose:
Spicy. Wood spice, honey, oak, hot grain spirits, rye spice, dill, herbs, cinnamon cookies.

    Palate:
Green apple, dill, honey, vanilla, oak, spice, sweet and spicy, a bit of sharp grain spirits.

    Finish:
Honey, vanilla, grain spirit harshness, black pepper.

    With Water:
Softer, more caramel and vanilla, less harsh spirits.

    Overall:
Seems to have some rye in there. Pretty interesting spiciness, rather creamy, sweet. There definitely is some harsh grain spirit. I like it, actually, and it would be good for this price if I got 700 ml. No way at this price.

For the price it's often available at(sub-40€ on airport discounts), it's a fine dram. Nothing unusual, but certainly different than your basics.
    • Nose

Honeydew melon, mint, other fresh herbs in there too, bit of mellowed citrus.
    • Taste
      81 81
Very mild, melons, fruits, bit of herbiness.
    • Finish
      81 81
      Medium-short, citric and slightly honeyed.

This isn't as bad as some of these comments make out. I had a couple of glasses at a mates house last night and found it to be a very nice light and fruity sipping whisky. If this is a bad grain whisky then what is Haig Club?
