    A really first rate bottle
    • Nose
      Loads of sherry in this one. Very sweet with heaps of milk chocolate and a little coffee. The clynelish character shines through though. This is a cracking sherry cask; clean as a whistle worth no trace of sulphur.
    • Taste
      The chocolate is almost melting on the palate. Soft and delicious.
    • Finish
      Very soft and long with the chocolate and coffee theme lasting to the end.

    Not especially easy to get to the first sip, you have to give the dram time to open up and reveal itself. The greedy side comes with time, and grows gradually during dram. Less on the salted caramel than in my memories (even if these two markers are still very noticeable in varying degrees), and not as immediate confectionery as some other whisky in sherry casks; this Clynelish is nonetheless a very good whisky to enjoy taking good time. And besides my wife said, by dipping the nose, "It is less worse than the others (note: whiskys that I already felt)"; which is a good sign ;-)
    • Nose
      A pronounced salinity in the first nose, which fades afterwards. Raisins, honey, a very slight caramelized grass smoke. Full of dried fruits and candied, and exotic spices. After a long aeration, the fir spine appears. A lot of things in this nose very greedy and far from the dry and woody nose of some whiskys in Sherry casks (Oloroso for example).
    • Taste
      White grapes and dried apricots with alcohol, and candied orange. But also a "dirty" side on rifle and hazelnut oil. Peppery and salty sweet caramel is then required.
    • Finish
      Long. Spices are more and more present, finally tingling the tongue and cheeks. An apricot bitterness sets in, accompanied by a very slight salty smoke. Soft caramel melts slowly in the mouth.

    A really great, intense Clynelish, beautifully ripe and complex. A top whisky.
    [Color] mahogany;
    • Nose
      clearly sherry, honey, raisins, dried fruits, tobacco, spicy oak;
    • Taste
      very sherry-like, creamy (honey, a lot of chocolate), supple, nutty, full-bodied, intense, ripe, very complex;
    • Finish
      very long and intense; Sherry, spices, dark chocolate, tobacco spice;

    The harmony between a Clynelish and Sherry is very well done
    • Nose
      At first sherry notes come to mind, but also a pleasant, tender milk chocolate spreads easily.
    • Taste
      What was in the nose is just as elegant in the mouth. Soft and very pleasant
    • Finish
      very pleasant and long more and more chocolate and always drier. gloriously

    [March, 2016]  After two drams I comped this bottle to a friend that is not that sensitive to sulphury flavours.  I bought it for 95 Euro in March, 2016.In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 82,5.  My notes state slightly sulphury flavours and aromas that are not very annoying.  Nevertheless these are unwanted and not enjoyable.

    Very well balanced and with the right level of punch in my mind - it doesn't matter if this is Clynelish or not - it's just a good sherried whisky
    • Nose
      Fresh, intensive sherry wood, toffee, milk chocolate, little citrus fruits - actually very good
    • Taste
      Punchy, oily, liquorice, oaky, woody, citrusy, subtle sweetness, well balanced - great
    • Finish
      Long and smooth - with water of course

    A very active cask imparting lots of spicy, dry flavours and some dark fruits into the distillate. This is old-style ex-sherry butt matured whisky exhibiting the influence of European oak, so don’t expect it to be the sweet sherry style from american wood casks with liberal amounts of overly sweet sherry left in the casks prior to filling.
