Whisky Reviews for Inver House 08-year-old - Red Plaid

6 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.50 points

Inver House was the owner of the closed Moffat distillery complex. The distillery produced the grain Garnheath and the malts Killyloch and Glen Flagler. With some reservation it may be proposed that the Inver House blends may be based on or contain some or all of these whiskies. All of them are very rare as a single grain or malt.

      Nose:
The first thing that comes through today is the pear. A smell like Grandma's oak cabinet. The sweetish glue note cannot be overlooked today either. Smells a bit chewy, oily. Just reminds me of rapeseed oil again. A few herbs and overripe apricots. Has something of bay leaves. With a little more time in the glass, I find sweet rum raisins and an aroma of berries. Slightly wet cardboard and hints of rosé wine. For red wine I don't find the aroma somehow dark enough. A suitable portion of malt and a little nougat.
    • Taste
Soft, oily appearance. Then some ginger and oak seasoning. Tart berries and sourdough. Herbal honey and again the light plastic taste. The taste is much more sour and fermented than the nose suggests. Slightly burnt toast and bitter nut flavors are added. Has a second sip of slightly burnt sauerkraut, with juniper and a little clove.
    • Finish
      Medium length and pleasantly spicy.
