Nose: Full, intense, fruity sherry, dark fruits, juicy raisins, sweetness, spices, oak, floral, depth, complex

Mouth: Strong, full and spicy, intense sherry, sweetness, oranges, bittersweet, oak, spices, dark chocolate

With water: Clearly fruitier, lighter, leather

Comments: Slightly more complex, deeper and more mature than Allardice 2015. At least 19 years old due to distillery closure.

Very rich sherry nose. Raisins, dried plums, red fruits, tobacco leaves, leather and a nutmeg in the background. After some time also espresso notes are coming through.
    • Taste
      87 87
Very fat. Dried fruits, leather, raisins, milk chocolate, leather.
    • Finish
      89 89
Very long, probably that's the age coming to play here (19-20 years old). Sweetness and pungency well combined. Milk chocolate.

      A real treat!

Near heel of bottle so starting to flatten a little but what an amazing whisky for the price and especially for a core range despite of course being older than stated.
    • Nose
Dulce de leche, custard, sticky toffee date cake, ginger dessert drizzle and browned vanilla cream, over steeped black tea, chocolate orange (darker), cinnamon spice and maple candy. I could probably keep going, this is a very rich and deeply complex whisky.
    • Taste
Black tea tannins, orange oil (other red fruits taking a background role), dark chocolate and shoe polish, oak spice, cinnamon spice, black pepper corns, ginger drizzle on that toffee cake, a little umami, meaty, a little espresso note and a touch of damp dunnage funk... happily.
Interesting how this started and finished with a bit of bitterness and sourness. Wonderful!
    • Finish
Long finish, spicy (baking variety), savoury, dry sherry, funk lingers adding to the appeal and complexity, pleasant bitterness from oranges, a little cough syrup and herbs.

Aroma: open, delicate, grape cake, spices for mulled wine, a variety of dried fruits (pears, apples, raisins, dates), dressed leather. Over time, light malt notes appear, sweetness is replaced by sweet and sour berry motifs, old oak furniture, slightly fragrant mint.

Taste: delicate, enveloping, raisins, dates, dried apricots, honey sweetness, very light spices, leather, tobacco leaf, pleasant oak tannin.

Finish: raisins in dark chocolate, prunes, barely noticeable spices, skin, wax, honey honeycombs, oily, longer than average, but as delicate as the taste, but the dried fruit oily film covers the mouth for a long time.

    Rating: 89

Bottom line: an exemplary 15 year regular release from sherry barrels, stunningly balanced, without sharp corners. The feeling that alchemists sat above him and measured out a pinch on the scales!) To the best of dried fruits, slightly honey and spices, everything floats and poured, even the sweetness that was just felt, turns into sweet and sour berries and a spicy oak

High influence of the sherry cask. Oily, leathery, nutty with compliments of toffee and coffee. Value for money at retail price.

    • Nose
Broth, dark raisins, dairy butter, waxy, coffee and ginger bread.
    • Taste
Some sulpher, raisins, chocolate, nuts like in oloroso sherry, fruity white wine like Riesling and chipolata cake.
    • Finish
Medium drying with sulpher, pepper, orange and standing groundwater.

Water: a few drops make it much more harmonious and softer

Conclusion: The nose is initially a bit disappointing, also by the slight sulfuric touch, but in the taste and finish it explodes, even if it could be a bit voluminous. However, this is a modern sherry whisky, which has nothing of the elegance of old sherry bottlings from the 90s.

Why this hype about these bottlings? Yes, he's older than the 15y, he has a lot of sherry ... but that's about it.

Olorososherry with light sulfur notes, slightly sourish, figs, dried dates, burnt caramel, hazelnut, clear oak notes with carnations and cardamom, blackberry syrup and dark chocolate, alcohol content fits
    • Taste
      87 87
a great start, a mega-load of sherry, soft, caramel, plum, figs, dates, spices
    • Finish
      86 86
long and intense, again lots of sherry, caramel, hazelnuts, nougat, chocolate, oak

A seriously good whisky for the original price (£43 approx), if you see this in your local whisky bar and it’s not a crazy price, we highly recommend getting yourself a dram.

Very difficult to find in retail shops but expect to pay upwards of £140 or variable prices at auction, from £85 - £130. The new Glendronach 15 is due for release in 2018/19, we can only hope that it’s as good as the Revival.

    • Nose
Instant Christmas cake and heavily sherried fruits, muscovado sugar, toffee, zingy chocolate orange, old leather – like an old brief case, polish, subtle hints of peat if you look closely (usually after a bottle is half finished and sat for a few weeks)
    • Taste
Very rich, fruity oil, lots of treacle, toffee, dark chocolate, coffee, muscovado sugar, toasted oak and nuts with dried winter fruits. A decent amount of spice and cloves, hints of cinnamon and sugary honey.
    • Finish
Quite long and lingering, spices with an orange tang, complex, more Christmas cake, dried dates and raisins.

    Sublime !
    • Nose
More expressive sherry nose than the 12 year old. Strong in oranges and some leather.
    • Taste
The classic sherry experience but with a thicker entry. Honey sweetness and oranges. Spiced but not burning. Very smooth and a little smoke.
    • Finish
      Good sweet and spicy finish.

This whisky is the best buy/price and still the 18 and 21years old must come to more age stats in 2019 and 2022 before they go to real age again.

I didn't like it as much initially, but it oxidises pretty well.

Currently about 2 months into the bottle, will give update once it peaks.

I still find this 2015 bottle less full than I had in 2013. Especially the nose and finish are less.

The theory is that the 2015 releases of the Revival are around 19 years old. But when I compared this one directly with versions from 2012, 2013 and 2014, I actually found this one the least impressive one, thinner in the mouth with a less dark profile. So even if the story about the age is true, there may be other factors making a difference: More refill rather than first fill? More Oloroso, less PX? It's still nice but it's not worth double the price of earlier batches, not at all.
    • Nose
Orange, cherry, caramel, citrus, cinnamon, malt and a little hazelnut. Not quite as aromatic as earlier batches that I've tried, it has some trouble loosening up.
    • Taste
Orange, prune, pepper, caramel and cinnamon.
    • Finish
Orange, roasted chestnut, chocolate, cherry and caramel.

This is a big and busy dram. It’s well aged and has deep layers of complex flavours. There is a distinct sulfur tone though out the whisky but not overpowering anything, instead it add’s to the complexity of the experience. I’m happy that I have another closed bottle in stock as you need to have this in your glass once in a while just to remind you how good old fashioned whisky actually tastes.
