TASTING NOTE LMDW: While the marvelous 2002 vintage version of our 2015 Collection places white port wine and malted barley on an equal footing, this Ben Nevis 12-year-old white port matured adds two new destinations to its travel craze: the West Indies and the Orient with its scents and flavors so exotic. The white port also remains behind the malted barley. Complexity when you hold us!
Profile: fresh citrus (orange, mandarin), linden honey and white grapes. Port wine white diffuses a macerated fruit liqueur. Color: orange-colored copper with old gold reflections. Nose: both pulpy and firm. A touch of burnt wood comes first to the surface of the aromatic palette. It evolves on fresh citrus (orange, tangerine), linden honey and white grapes. More and more heady, it becomes spicy (pepper, nutmeg) and even spicy (Espelette). Finally, it oscillates between rhubarb jam, vanilla and faded rose. Palate: powerful, authoritarian. The port wine white diffuses a fruit liquor macerated with the skins. A very beautiful crimson color illuminates the mid-palate. Then, notes of licorice stick and sugar cane make it venture into Antillean territory. Heady flowers (hyacinth, peony) and orange blossom perfume the back mouth. Final: long, rather dry. Notes of marmalade and exotic fruits (pineapple, lychee) precede its intensely oriental evolution (loukoum, rose petal, pistachio cake). The retro-olfaction returns to the edge of the Douro, the freshly picked grapes slowly begin their fermentation. The empty glass is malty and grassy (cut hay, watercress).
