beautiful, spirit driven expression of Clynelish
    • Nose
briny, mineral, salty, tiniest trace of peat smoke, prickles, no trace of alcohol, unripe pear, chalk, machine oil, citronella grass, watermelon, light caramel, cotton candy, bees wax
    • Taste
soft and creamy mouthfeel, bitterness from brazil nuts, prickles, sodawater, dried apricots, honey, chimney, chocolate, sea salt
    • Finish
short-medium, bees wax, american oak, again traces of peat smoke

Actually, nice taste but the burning alcohol taste is a pity.
    • Nose
Strong apricot, very fruity and sweet. Pleasent and soft. A special  "medical" aroma of something you find in hospitals, but not really smoke. Overall also a savory character.
    • Taste
Sweet apricot dominating again, very nice. Herbal oak turns into licorice with salt. Here, impressive and clear distillery taste, not too much barrel present. However, strong and "nasty" alcohol although only 43℅ vol.
    • Finish
Some spices left on the tongue, salt and licorice. Average length of finish from my point of view.

the 16 years of maturity have been essentially subraktiv, but the result can be proud of: a great distillate Malt with corners and edges without any disturbing notes, very independent, reminds here and there of Springbank / Longrow, but softer and gentler. For about 40-45 € a bargain. Addendum: the longer it is open, the more fruity the nose becomes. Mirabelle, more beeswax and liquorice are added, mango, pale ale
    • Nose
Maritime, mineral, salty, a hint of smoke (was previously something smoky in the barrel?), Sparkling, but no trace of alcohol, significantly hard pear, lime, machine oil, lemon grass, a little watermelon, light caramel, cotton candy, later comes beeswax, always The longer the malt can breathe, the clearer it becomes
    • Taste
Creamy, soft mouthfeel, nice dry bitterness of Brazil nuts or walnuts, strong sparkling mineral water, dried apricots, honey, sooty chimney, clear milk chocolate oak, sea salt
    • Finish
Short to medium long, beeswax, American oak, the smoke knocks again

    Clynelish 1998/2015 SV 43% Hogsheads 7766 + 7767 WID: 69854

Nose: Very light smoke, butter, lemon, machine oil, much more interesting than the previous one from the Decanter with the WID: 68217, after a while also apricots.

Taste: sweet. Honey, salt, oil, slightly bitter, some marzipan, still sweet.

Finish : Oily and sweet, rather fading, at least, no oak will move. There remains this slight taste of machine oil. Warm and medium.

Conclusion: This oily taste makes it very interesting for me. In the finish I would like something more wood. Otherwise I am positively surprised.

  6. Noface83 scored this whisky 84 points Specialist

Nose. Malty and fresh, a light salty sea breeze, orange zest, beeswax. A pleasant and fresh nose but without depth now. Taste: sweet honey and a hint of vanilla, sparkling freshness, pepper from the oak, despite only 43% full and slightly oily. In the finish then very sweet with a backward but always bitter oak. Rather short and tasty.
A solid Süffelwhisky that has just enough to offer not boring in the long run. Really good stuff for little money.
