Whisky Reviews for Clynelish 1997 Cr

In the nose rather young, I would have estimated less than 17 years. Fruity, peppery, with oak and a little subtle sweetness in the background. Beeswax only after 5-10 minutes in the jar, but then noticeable.
In the mouth also sparkling rather young, flowers, grass, citrus fruits and apple. Wax or honey and the like almost not at all, a bit oily and maritime on the edge, but I would not have recognized the Clynelish blindly. There is something chalk-like (what do you call that correctly in German? In English I would say "chalk", but somehow circles is not exactly that?), That reminds me a little of Clynelish.
The finish is rather short with crisp fruits, vanilla, oak and a little tingling on the palate.

Delicious droplet, but a little too harmonic for me and somehow not complex enough.

The alcohol is hardly noticeable or at least not disturbing, so that this Clynelish despite cask strength is undiluted well to enjoy.
The beeswax aroma is most likely to be found in the nose, in the mouth at most in the first viscous mouthfeel.

Ripe Williams Christ pear, candied lemon, tangerine and pineapple, all with a dash of effervescent powder, rounded off with tart honey and a slightly filthy undertone à la Springbank.
    • Taste
      86 86
Soft and oily at first, then comes through ginger, which is well balanced by ripe pineapple. The sweetness gradually fades into the background, a meager sharpness now comes out.
    • Finish
      85 85
Slowly decaying citrus fruits, which are increasingly becoming lemon drops.

    Minus: pretty simple knit.

Plus: you do not notice the alcohol percentage at all.

Conclusion: good cask strength, good hogshead, but that has no extras to offer.

Typical Clynelish in its kind. Good bottling, but not outstanding. The alk is a little too integrated for my taste, if enjoyed pure.

First, paraffin and mineral notes. Light fruit, spicy-mineral undertones. Lime, pineapple, white grapes. Apricots, Speik. Add some vanilla. Prickles something. Fresh and animating.

With water: something (yellow) fruity (apricot and mirabelle), with some pencil / cedar.
    • Taste
      85 85
Light-fruited (pear, pineapple). Purely too fiery-alcoholic, mineral, full, luscious. Tight and masculine.
But with water really delicious and good - fruity. Mirabelle brandy.
    • Finish
      84 84
Medium in finish, well balanced. Spicy. Apricot.
With water: beeswax, mirabelle brandy and a bit of honeydew melon.

    Blind tasting of a sample.
    • Nose
Fruity - apple, apple sauce and malty - some grains. Citrus, banana and caramel.
    • Taste
Malty, citrus, honey, vanilla and apple. White grapes, Turkish delight, creamy fruits - mango and a trace of peat. Later some wax.
    • Finish
Fruity - peach, tea and vanilla.

  7. KayMeertens scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Nice profile but it lacks body and complexity. Should have stayed in the cask a few more years I think.
    • Nose
Quite sharp in the nose initially. Green apple, peach, vanilla, caramel and honey. It becomes a bit creamier when it breathes, but it does stay rather sharp.
    • Taste
Caramel, apple, honey, vanilla, spice and a little wax.
    • Finish
Caramel, apple, chestnut and a whiff of smoke.

At first it is a bit too spirity. Definitely needs some time and a bit of water to settle, and it does get better. And she has sexy legs.
