    Enthusiasm 5/5 This is a beautiful whisky No. 1250!
    • Nose
      Seaweed, generous ripe fruit (baked apples), vanilla, pastry malt with a note of almonds
    • Taste
      Everything is here ! Generosity, intensity, breadth, stature, texture, spices, honey ...
    • Finish
      Sweet and intense, sparkling with spices. Long on the smoke!

    Notes by producer;

    Lp6 is one for Islay fans who like their whiskies dry and lean, with more emphasis on peat and smoke than fruit. This bottling is from the late 1990s, and was matured in a quartet of ex-bourbon barrels.

    Cask details;
    Four 1998 bourbon barrels.

    Tasting Notes;

    A multitude of aromas here: medicine, brine, black pepper and smoke. Slightly austere and challenging.

    Tropical fruit arrives in the form of mango and pineapple, with some lemon zest, big peat and smoke. Still on the lean side, then vanilla adds richness. Adding water ramps up the fruitiness.

    Long and lingering, with a dry, smoky edge and a touch of vanilla.

    Only on the tongue does he show that he is a Laphroaig. Well done, but with a comparable original bottling, eg 10 CS, just barely keep up.
    • Nose
      A reserved, mildly smoky nose. A hint of phenol, only a little. Sea salt and washed-up, sun-dried algae. Lime as a fruit note.
    • Taste
      On the tongue it shows up as a classic Laphroaig with strong peat smoke, licorice, glowing asphalt and sea salt. Beautiful fruit note with citrus fruits. After a while comes dark chocolate and vanilla.
    • Finish
      Long, smoky, salty, drying to the end.

    Nachverkostung, two years later: He has broken down, the nose is now very discreet, on the tongue he comes quite thin. In the finish he is still well spicy and smoky. So he does not tolerate oxygen (in the half emptied sample vial).

    Good good dram, but you have to like spices in your peat. Not a "clean & fresh" one, as opposed to Lg5 which I tasted side by side, and prefered. Lp4 was better as well imho, its light sherry bringing the "real" Laphroaig fruitiness with passion fruit and all. Well, good dram anyway.
    • Nose
      A Laphroaig all right, but the cask influence is definitely there. A seemingly sherried (though there isn't any) medicinal side on big big camphor and cough syrup, quite some wood spices, hessian, cinnamon.
    • Taste
      Same vein, very sandy, with sweet fleetwood, rhubarb, iodine big time, smoky liquorice, cinnamon.
    • Finish
      Long, quite sweet, always on those woody spices, smoke (of course ...), bitter rhubarb and wet sand.

    Actually, this is too expensive, as there are cheaper equivalent or better OA. I do not like it devaluing the price, therefore, the price is adjusted.

    A classic Laphroaig which is offering a well balanced peat dram.  Lovely!
