Whisky Reviews for Glenlossie 1993 CA

7 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.90 points

  1. Dram Dracula scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

Not very exciting and not very precise. Nondescript. Not something I would reach for often to be honest.
    • Nose
Ripened pears, white grapes, and lemon zest. Malty and a hint of earthiness. After about a minute in the glass, it becomes fresher. I haven't tasted a lot of whiskies from Glenlossie distillery in the past, but there are many distilleries that make this style of whisky.
    • Taste
A bit peppery, and yes, a tad too much oak, but the overall experience is positive. Pears, starfruits, and guava round out the flavors. Quite okay.
    • Finish
A bit chalky, bitter, and oaky at the end.

flat and boring, lots of bitterness and pretty boring flavors
    • Nose
bitter grass, citrus, pears, honey, butter, citrus peel, musk, rubber
    • Taste
light fruits, butter, citrus, grass, citrus peel bitterness, floral
    • Finish
short-medium, light, flat, light fruits, cream, butter, pastry sweetness, buttery bitter cream at the back

  4. hs305 scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

[March, 2016]  Together with friends I emptied a bottle that I bought for 89 Euro in March, 2016.

[January, 2017]  Together with friends I emptied another bottle that I bought for 89 Euro in March, 2016.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 87,5 both times.  My notes state the typical fruity and malty Glenlossie taste...

    From whiskyfun   April 25, 2016

Glenlossie 21 yo 1993/2015 (56,1%, Cadenhead, Small Batch, bourbon hogshead, 492 bottles) Colour: pale gold. Nose: there’s rather more happening here. Crushed mint leaves, strawberry sweets, pomegranates, old potatoes (and earth), liquorice wood, Bakelite, old electronics (an old radio set)… It’s much funnier, probably not very orthodox, but yeah, it’s got funny sides. With water: porridge, apple juice, lemon. Gets in line. Mouth (neat): strange-ish. Schweppes and honey, blood oranges, mandarins, kiwis, cinchona, Campari… A funny feeling of ‘new plastic pouch’ in the background, but those are now about to disappear anyway – verboten because of environmental issues! With water: easy fruity maltiness. Close to the 1997. Finish: medium, malty. Marmalade on shortbread. Comments: very good, it’s just that once again, you won’t remember this dram for years. Which dram am I talking about? Can’t remember… SGP:551 - 82 points.

  6. Mannheimer scored this whisky 89 points Expert Junior

Super malt, age noticeable, a lot of oak, but a lot Brennereicharakter here (wax, fruit syrup), great PLV (89 €).
Does not tolerate water m. M. n., Becomes one-dimensional with only beeswax.
    • Nose
Full in the nose with strong oak and a lot of vanilla. Then you will find a lot of pastries and marzipan. You do not feel alcohol at all. Fruit cargo then prevails: oranges, figs and apricots. In the background a nice growth, very refreshing at the beginning, then becomes clearer after a few minutes. Gives an elegant counterpoint to the oak. You definitely feel age, very nice!
    • Taste
Very intense on the tongue, very Clynelish-like. Rather dry when starting, then fruit syrup and oak. With water you get more and more waxy notes and spicy oak.
Strong and intense, what more could you want!
    • Finish
Fruit more present than on the palate, wood, becoming drier

  7. ARDBERG did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    Cadenhead Notes:

    Summer 2015 Small Batch

Nose    Initially quite waxy. Grape skins and candle wax. This changes to linseed oil and soft nuttiness as this amazing dram breaths in the glass.

Palate    Initially dry, with some fresh cut wood notes giving way to syrupy fruitiness. Lots of marzipan and red fruits. With a drop of water the sweetness comes to the front.

Finish    Growing raspberry notes, faint rhubarb and then more zesty fruits and some salted toffee. This is a perfect after dinner dram with a rich complex taste.
