Very fine littlemill. Fruit and grass in a beautiful interplay.
    • Nose

Fruit, cereals, somewhat reserved, melon, honey, papaya, elderflower syrup, floral, freshly washed laundry, granola bars, beet syrup, coconut, light oak
    • Taste
      93 93
Intensive onset, mouth filling, then the fruit comes, the fruit notes become greener, gritty, mineral
    • Finish
      91 91
      long, dry

A nice littlemill that is very Irish like, with a little greasy side. I like it.
    • Nose
      88 88
A little prickly at full strength. Grassy, vanilla, pencil lead, grease. Fruits are somewhat shy here.
    • Taste
      91 91
Full, oily mouthfeel. Honey. A little grease, but all about the fruits. Kiwi, guava, mango, green grapes. Coriander. Very nice.
    • Finish
      90 90
Long and juicy, tropical and grassy, passion fruit, guava, kiwi, lychee, watermelon, mint. Sauternes. Very mouthcoating. It’s quite sweet, but countered nicely by a tart element.

Not my favourite profile, but certainly it is good stuff.
    • Nose
Quite unusual nose with notes of varnish striking first, followed by grain and oak wood. Initially it is slightly mineral, but opens up on vanilla, coconut, pears and later on more green elements appear, flower stems and grass.
    • Taste
More on tropical fruits than the nose, mango, passion fruits, oranges. Very creamy, vanilla, crème brûlée.
    • Finish
Medium length, the fruitiness continues and fades gently accompanied by a touch of oak wood.

  5. Bishlouk scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

An excellent whisky, although I find it on a profile quite far from the usual markers of the distillery.
    • Nose
Very fresh, young fruits still green. Floral too, but rather shyly. A rather different nose of Littlemill that I used to frequent.
    • Taste
Pear syrup, grapefruit jam, green banana peel.
    • Finish
Long. The freshness returns in the mouth. Tingling of shrub spines on the tongue. A light wood appears.

Littlemill 24 yo 1990/2015 (53.7%, Cadenhead, Small Batch) Five stars Another new one. Let’s give up literature (yeah right, S, literature!) Colour: gold. Nose: it’s a pure, austere, mineral Littlemill. More on skins than on fruit pulps, and I even find whiffs of new leatherette, new sneakers, chalkboard… Should we call this baby ‘schooly’? Also rather western fruits than tropical ones, so rhubarb and gooseberries instead of mango and maracuja. With water: I find that sneaky to put Yquem 1988 into a bottle of whisky. Very sneaky. Mouth (neat): ohh! A perfect straight tropical fruitiness that would even beat a 1976 Benriach, if that rings a bell to you. Not whisky, a sin. Quick, with water: there’s some Haendel in this. You know, the Hallelujah chorus from his Messiah. Other than that, oranges, citrons, guavas, lemons, and a touch of coconut. Finish: perhaps medium, certainly emphatically fruity. Comments: this demonstrates the superiority of very small batches vs. single casks. All my favourite whiskies were vattings of two or three (or four) casks, almost never single casks. Just saying, just saying. As for this wee Littlemill, it’s the, ach, err, the bomb. Hope the cheque’s in the mail, Cadenhead! SGP:651 - 93 points. PS: buy these black small batches. Future legends.
