    Tasting: Mars 2021
    • Nose
Fruits, with orange and vanilla. A scent of sweet citrus.
    • Taste
Very fruity and with sweetness. Spices, with pepper that grows. Very young.
    • Finish
Fruity and with burnt sugar. The pepper hangs on til the end.

  4. KB201 scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

As usual, the whisky was not chill-filtered, not colored and bottled in strong cask strength.
    • Nose
      84 84
Oak, sherry tones, after diluting it reveals vanilla and fruit notes.
    • Taste
      85 85
Complex with dark chocolate and coffee beans. Fresh and spicy with orange peel, roasted almonds and tropical fruits.
    • Finish
      84 84
Medium to long and tart with dark chocolate and spices.

Split feelings. It's actually good in many ways, but somehow the combination as all doesn't really click with me. For me it's more like two to three, purely subjective.
    • Nose
      60 60
Undiluted: The alcohol content is in the room as a kind of tingling and slightly numbing in the nose. Behind a fruitiness of fresh, light-colored fruits.

Diluted to approx. 45%: Takes away the tingling sound and inhibits the numbing impression. The fruitiness becomes more dominant. Freshly sliced sour apples.
    • Taste
      60 60
Spicy, sparkling and a bit of oak bitterness, combined with a light maltiness and lemon-like acidity.
    • Finish
      60 60
A slight, pleasant bitterness that becomes drier remains, together with tingling spices, a hint of malt and very little acidic fruitiness. No more sweetness there.

Orange, citrus, apple and pear, spices
    • Finish

      Medium length and fruity

With a few drops of water, it becomes much more accessible
      Very fruity

Fruity, zingy, citrus-y, oily, salty, with deep, fragrant wood notes. Beautiful. Amazing value for money.

  12. PatSch23_12 scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

Due to the high alcohol content not as accessible as the 10-year-old, but more intense
    • Nose
extremely fruity, bright fruits, fresh fruit: melon (Arran typical?), green apple, banana, pear, pickled peach, light honey, orange, kumquat, a little salt, vanilla pudding - alcohol is very present, some water dissolves the flavors better
    • Taste
subtle oiliness, sparkling alcohol, citrus blend (bitter sweet freshness), ginger, pleasant wood, a little spice - again very on the fruity-dry side.
    • Finish
      dry and medium long.

  13. tomfa scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

As a summer painting well suited. Works better with water. 21/22/19/21 = 83
    • Nose
Citrus scents, floral, orange, some bitter almond (marzipan), malt - a light fresh nose.
    • Taste
Very soft mouthfeel. The smell is accompanied by an immense sweetness, which initially turns into peppery (white pepper), in order to become very dry and noticeably corky.
    • Finish
Peppery, slightly bitter, astringent on the finish; the dryness keeps, so the finish rather long (without resulting in an excessive enjoyment).

  14. Defeatless scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

    Nose:
Neat: citrus, honey, marzipan, freshly cutted wood. All signs of a young whisky, although this is 12yo. A little buttery in the background.
With water: There is more a dark and dirty side to it. More farm notes. The young roughness seems to be gone.

    Taste:
Neat: Creamy quickly followed by some honey, again marzipan and some sweet limes.
With water: Sweet, but a bit dirty. then some sour notes, the tastes when neat are there but really more on the background.

    Body: Full and oily

    Finish:
Neat: Medium-long length. A little tannic, quite some wood influence, but it is a bit of a duffer. Although later on in the background there is again the freshly cut wood and the marzipan.
With water: Medium length. There are more tannins but doesn't change much.

    Price:
    Quite fair, given the quality

    Presentation:
Don't know this was a sample

N- Slow starter, masked by spiky active wood and strength for quite a while before the layer of saline and spicy malt starts to emerged, honeydew and tropical fruits fragrant, mellow demerara sugar with bitter oily honey butterscotch. Plenty of quality but stiffly structured.P- Better interpretation as the liquid softened on palate, peels, grapefruits, earthy mixed spices and aggressively spicy.  Strength overdrive without notable substance make it appeared rather spirit-y.F- Medium-long, creamy smokes, buttery, heavy with good spicy kick and peppery warm.  Decent, no surprise, not bad either.— at The Whisky Bar, Kuala Lumpur.

despite "only" 52.9%, especially in the taste quite intense, he starts convincing, although then he drops slightly here is price / performance
    • Nose
solid cloudy honey and alcohol first, old floury apple from the cellar, rubble, a bit of lime, water brings nothing more sweetness (coconut oil, bounty, Toffifee) no more change
    • Taste
Herbal toothpaste, very sparkling, sweetness comes through weakly, mint, then thinned significantly smoother
    • Finish
Tart woodruff, quite strong, basil, leaves prickling cheeks and remains medium in the neck back

    I do not like it.
    • Nose
Green apple with lemon and a strong alcohol note. Over time, some honey and vanilla.
    • Taste
First alcohol, then ginger with lemon and grapefruit. Oak and spices.
    • Finish
Short, dry with nut and spices.

  20. MaltyMillionaire scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Very nice dram, with great honey-spice interplay. Can easily be sipped neat.
    • Nose
Punchy with the high ABV. Honey, sweet bread, yellow fruit, vanilla. With time, the honey notes really emerge.
    • Taste
Sweet malty arrival. Honey, sweet green grapes, yellow fruit (mild banana?), spice. Honeyed palate with a nice backbone of spice.
    • Finish
Long, sweet, malty, and spicy with honeyed overtones.

He is very nice. On the nose, I would not have typed more than 50%. He still tolerates water a bit. Overall, the PLV is absolutely fine with this
    • Nose
bright fruits (lemons, apples and mandarins); with a nice vanilla aroma; light, wet wood paired with a little salty muff; Cotton candy; a few spices; the + 50% is noticeable in the nose, but are not disturbing; vanilla and salt become more intense over time and a little bit of whole milk chocolate is added; with water it gets sweeter and chocolatier
    • Taste
slightly creamy; now you notice the alcohol, it tingles strongly on the tongue; again a little vanilla; Chocolate and light wood; with a little pepper
    • Finish
short to medium length; a little oak and again vanilla; There is also this typical mouthfeel of a bourbon-ripened whisky which I always find bitter-sweet Spices with a superficial pepper note come with water

    Tasting Notes Arran:Colour Autumn Gold.

Nose Full-bodied aroma of dark chocolate, coffee beans, toasted oak and baked apples.

Palate A warming sherry blanket at first but time and a splash of water reveal more subtle nuances of citrus fruits and cinnamon. There is a slight hint of tropical notes in the tail.

Finish Powerful and spicy but still retains the finesse of classic Arran expressions.

Brand new presentation for 2015! For Batch #5 of The Arran Malt 12 Years Old Cask Strength our Master Distiller James MacTaggart has selected a combination of First-Fill Sherry Butts, Second-Fill Sherry Hogsheads and First Fill Bourbon barrels which have been bottled at Natural Cask Strength. The influence of the Sherry Casks has enhanced the classic Arran characteristics of sweet fruit and spicy oak and the Bourbon casks give the vanilla smoothness to create a rich and powerful new edition of The Arran Malt.
