    A Laphroaig CS, actually enough this statement! Powerful and voluminous, extremely creamy and oily, peat without end and a wonderfully integrated smoke, fruity sweetness and dark fruit flavors with burnt caramel. All these flavors are wonderfully harmonious with each other. A Laphi CS is always something special and a treat, for me Batch # 004 is one of the best batches. A fantastic part, I am thrilled!
    • Nose
      Mineral peat rises powerfully out of the glass while the powerful Laphroaig rests slightly cloudy and creamy caramel in the Premium Snifter. At the moment I really do not know what fascinates me more: The powerful peaty volume of the nose or the extremely long and oily drops which pull their tracks on the glass wall in slow motion ... Earthy and mineral tear me the dry peat from my lethargy, iodine and a discreet salt note is released, phenolic and subtly smoky, the CS exudes its wonderful aroma. Malt and fruity sweetness dissolve from the intensifying smoke and peat notes, slightly grassy elements are immediately rewashed by sweet malt and roasted grain. Wow, peaches and oranges break away from the fantastic peat note. Gorgeous, I could smell for hours on this voluminous and complex nose!
    • Taste
      Roasted peat and burned wood elements immediately spread campfire romance at the first sip! Cold smoke rises from the earthy and dry peat, spicy wood tones show up shortly before burned and charred pieces of wood creamy push into the foreground. A touch of cold ash whirls through the air, dark wood tones are permeated by malty sweetness and dark caramel, creamy wood elements rest briefly in the mouth before a rancid and oily mouth feel sets. Dark grain flavors and roasted barrel staves play together, dark fruit flavors mingle with dried peat and mineral notes. In the background is a fine and cold smoky note, salt and iodine show up now and then. With an extremely creamy and wooden mouthfeel, the Laphroaig slowly reverberates.
    • Finish
      Still creamy pieces of wood float slightly rancid and oily on the palate, the fine-smoked peat gets its second air and envelops the tongue with subtle sharpness. Dry and dark woody aromas rest under the tongue, cold smoke and a hint of ash are powerful again. The lightly burned wood looks slowly greasy and oily, dark walnut aroma rises slowly from the smoked peat and wood. Malt and a hint of licorice slowly fade away, leaving a creamy and oily mouthfeel with a wonderfully peaty and slightly smoky finish

    A Malt "full on the Twelve": Young, edgy, angular, pretty good.
    • Nose
      Nice fruity smoke, very refreshing for a Laphroaig. The fruits are dominated by peaches and apricots. The phenolic smoke is there, but rather discreet.
    • Taste
      Smoked and dried fruit, tart liquorice, salt and pepper. Very nicely the whole mouth area is lined with smoky-sweet wood notes. Beautiful peat bills. Despite barrel strength very good undiluted drinkable. The sweetness passes with time. At the end there is a cold peat campfire with pipe tobacco spice.
    • Finish
      Nice long, dry and ashen

    Laphroaig 10 yo OA Cask Strength 58.3% Batch 004
    Color: strong gold (dyed)
    Nose: Pure: again the enormous power of Laphroaig, untamed, slightly pungent at 58%, very maritime, dry sweetness, a little vanilla and a lot of salt, as expected, a little less fruit than the 003. With water: now fresher , less dry, here also fruity notes "behind the smoke", apricot, dried mint, green tea and again the stormy evening on the coast, light iodine note, medically also a little. Again very complex for 10 years !! Another great nose !!
    Taste: with water: strong, but hardly spicy, salty and smoky onset, then clearly sweet vanilla, caramel, a little drier. The second sip then fresher, smoother, after a few seconds but again the comforting heat from the peat fire, very straightforward. Just as you imagine the pure, primitive Islay Malt.
    Finish: long, dry peat, oak, nice ash on the palate, because you have the next morning, something from, cool!
    Comment: where the batch 003 has more fruit and sweetness in the nose, there is more freshness here, and even more salty sea spray, the mint is also cool! Otherwise again "most richly flavored", in the taste they differ only marginal, here even more maritime, and a sheer endless departure. The full mouth Islay Power, but at the same time elegant and interesting. Unfortunately nice!

    A beautiful malt in which the taste holds what the great nose promises. I like him!
    • Nose
      For a moment, my nose picks up sherry flavors, dark red grapes and cherries, and then smoke, the smell of a cigar box, and old leather suddenly come to the fore. In the background, vanilla and caramel notes waft, while gradually the echoes of maritime notes emerge. Seagrass and algae, as well as salty sea air become clearer. The sea can not be far ... Salivation begins.
    • Taste
      It begins lightly with orange and citrus notes, before heavy smoke, accompanied by pepper and jalapenos in the mouth, explodes. Spicy nutmeg, followed by sweet raisins, cocoa and roasted aromas that are replaced by coffee notes and an increasingly conspicuous oak flavor.
    • Finish
      Warming and long. The smoke is very present and carries oranges and salty notes for a long time before saltiness and oranges fade into the background and a pleasant oak spice precedence.

    A great Malt!
    • Nose
      Fed up in the nose, like the dark color! Aromatic, dec. medically, nicely fruity, develops more and more;
    • Taste
      Medicinal and spicy, pepper, dry, maritime, salty, gauze bandage, less fruity than in the nose;
    • Finish
      Spicy and strong, warming, discreetly medicated;

     As with the other batches this really shows on the palate, really heavy and creamy, though I still marginally prefer batch 006.

    Tasted at part of the 2017 BTC
    • Nose
      Medicinal, iodine. Mineral peat. Campfire. Strawberry shortcake. Quite farmy. Buttered pancakes. Treacle. Traces of peach and plum
    • Taste
      Quite creamy. Sweet peat. Celery salt. Iodine. Salty toffee. Brine.
    • Finish
      Long. Brine. Tobacco smoke. Mineral peat. Stewed fruits in custard.

    Extremely drinkable at such a high alcohol percentage. As with all the cask strength batches from Laphroaig, this is excellent whisky. It just never disappoints.
    • Nose
      Smoky and farmy, but also fairly coastal, and with a sweeter side. Some oranges, and strawberries too, as well as a hint of brown sugar.
    • Taste
      Nice sweet arrival (sugared breakfast cereals), but after the first swallow quite ashy, with a good amount of peat, tar and a hint of rubber. Some cloves as well.
    • Finish
      Lingering peat and tar, a tad dry.

    Very recognizable as a Laphroaig to me. Although not very complex, very nice because of it's strength. Tasted a sample on day eleven of the US Blind Tasting Competition 2017. My guess was a Laphroaig 10-yo @ 58,1% (batch #009).
    • Nose
      Smoke, vanilla sweetness, something thick and oily, some freshness like in the QC
    • Taste
      Smoke, sweet oily vanilla, something grassy, peat
    • Finish
      peat comes forward, vanilla sweetness comes bursting in ever weaker waves. Smoke covers it all
