Whisky Reviews for Bunnahabhain Young & Feisty McG

At first sniff this seemed barely more than new make, but with some time it revealed many wonderful secrets. Fantastic dram for what it is.
    • Nose
Some new makey notes that fade pretty quickly once in glass. Grains. Quite farmy, wet earth and grass, young peated spirit. Some very sugary tropical fruit notes and very underripe bananas. Also some salt.
    • Taste
Dirty peat. Lovely sweet tropical fruit note, like the syrup in canned fruit salad. Then some bitter citrus peel. Almost but not quite a leathery note if you hold it in the mouth for a while. Very hot and spicy on the swallow, mix of wood spice and spice spice, cayenne pepper, hot paprika.
    • Finish
Long. Sweet peat. Spearmint. Slight dry woodiness. More of that canned fruit salad syrup.

    This is a good Bunna,
    no two ways about it.
    • Nose
      Bull’s eye from the
first whiff. Smoked fish, wet earth, some manure. May not sound good, but on a
dirty Bunna it is becoming. It is mildly sour like baby puke. Yes, another
aroma that looks misplaced in a tasting note, but when you smell this whisky, I
am sure you will agree with me. And again: it works. Some sauerkraut and baking
butter and the picture is complete. Great nose.
    • Taste
      The arrival is
somewhat soft, almost watery. Pity. But the peat and the sweet fruit make up
for it. Mostly white fruit. Apples, pears and a hint of banana. Loads of citrus
in the second sip. The whole is wrapped in a smoky blanket that I can truly
appreciate. Yes, this is feisty indeed.
    • Finish
      The finish is fairly
      long, smoky and sweet.
