A fresh, fruity drop, very lively, but also with depth. However, not completely round and in the end with discrepancies.
    • Nose
      80 80
sweet and fresh with orange, cherry, white oak, brown sugar and fine caramel, some apple and vanilla, jelly candy with light citrus notes, background raisin, hints of milk chocolate and burned nuts, candy and sugar-dried dates
    • Taste
      79 79
Lots of oak on the first step, becoming increasingly spicy, white pepper, apple, vanilla, sherry, lots of syrup, caramel, orange, cinnamon and a little brown sugar, with a slight bitterness, subtle sage, removes sulfur, barley and yeast
    • Finish
      74 74
Sherry with hints of sulfur, pepper, vanilla, gentle citrus aromas, a hint of cherry, unfortunately with an acid undertone

a very decent Grenrothes version, a big improvement from their NAS entry malt

    (may 2016)
    • Nose
(neat) black raisins, red grapes, treacle, apple peel(water) with water nose becomes lighter and delicate, some floral notes appear, raw beets, light syrup
    • Taste
(neat) very similar to nose, heavy dark fruits, fruit jam, quite rounded and soft, decent oak influence, touch of smoke (water) vanilla, white pepper, syrup
    • Finish
medium long, quite nice, some sherry notes

a good dram for ... no questions, a Glenrothes what!
    • Nose
vanilla pastry, velvety barley, and very pronounced flavor!
    • Taste
the caramel, the vanilla ... where is the spoon?, a velvety side that appears and stays, the malt that embals
    • Finish
medium to long, with a return of sweet spices!

N- Sweet malt, earthy and pepper with soft fruits, citrusy. Musky wet oak at the back. P- Spicy with waves of hot pepper, currants and cherry sweet
fragrant, but overpowering by the spices. Unpleasant oak lingers.

F- Short, polished. Consistent throughout with cherry and peppery. Raw and spicy.

This edition of the Glenrothes range is their 2001 vintage single malt Scotch comes in the Speyside company's redesigned packaging. Ronnie Cox, the director at Berry Bros. & Rudd calls it "...complete and complex integrity in a glass." No wonder he's proud of it when it's so darn tasty!

  14. drkrylov scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

As ever with Glenrothes' vintages, this is some top notch whisky.
    • Nose
Cereal notes, warm and malty, with suggestions of orange, cherry and caramel underneath.
    • Taste
Orange comes to the foreground first, vanilla following shortly after. A tiny, spicy hint of apples dusted with cinnamon towards the end.
    • Finish
Fairly long and dry, the spice lingering.

This bottle needs a lot of air after being opened.  It has some sulfur funk that needs to be burned off/ aired out before it becomes close to enjoyable.
    • Nose
( 20/25) Touch of burning matches, lots of oak, brown sugar, and figs.  Tart cherries, and tobacco.
    • Taste
( 21/25) Lots of brown sugar, and apple cider. Some hints of spices and a little light in terms of body.
    • Finish
( 19/25) Very very heavy on spices, an abundance of cinnamon, and paprika. A little bit over powering.
