The higher bottling strength is a bonus, but I am not completely convinced by the character of the woodspices in this whisky. The cask influence might have gone a little bit too far here.
    • Nose
      85 85
Bitter oranges, grapefruit, vanilla, oak, clove and cinnamon

Very slow development when adding water. After half an hour, much more vanilla, honey and also pear.
    • Taste
      82 82
Again the bitter oranges and vanilla. Quite peppery with clove and nutmeg spices from the wood.
    • Finish
      80 80
Medium aftertaste with grapefruit, pepper, nutmeg and a bitter oakiness.

not much nose except alcohol. wood on the palate, a finish of honey, vanilla, and astringent wood. A few drops of water really opens it up, makes it creamier and really nice. 85 with water.

"Darker" than I had expected - and better! Nicely leather-y and rich, with the higher ABV providing lift and power without turning things too boozy. There's a pleasant sense of Bourbon/Sherry-interplay on the nose, without one side getting the upper hand. The typical Glenfiddich fruits and florals are there, but the casks definitely have had their say. Water makes the nose more buttery and soft and lightens it up a bit (tending more towards Bourbon-cask aromas now). Gets more oaky / older-seeming with more time in the glass.

Without water, it's perhaps a bit tart and acrid in the mouth, almost as if we're tasting Arran. Very good though, with a strong and sweet body and (for Glenfiddich) almost an oily mouthfeel. Reduced, things get more approachable, though the tart edge remains. So what flavors do we get? I'd say oranges and pears (with the peel), salted caramel, and some interestingly chalky/mineralic associations, somewhere between aspirin tablets and limestone. Good stuff!

The finish is medium, with some subdued sweetness and lemon sherbet lingering the longest.

Overall, a really substantial version of Glenfiddich at a great value-for-money ratio. A sleeper candidate for my very own private bang-for-your-buck award...

spices, oak, combined with quite a load of vanilla and honey. sweet fruits all over with a very nice ABV. mingesl nicley. body and finish are more intense than with the 15yo Solera, finish is longer, with more spices and more oak. that is some nice dram!

This one was bitter and oaky. I tried adding water and it didn't help. Personally, I'd go for the Solera Reserve.
    • Nose
Soft oak, apples and pears, and nutmeg.
    • Taste
Bitter floral oak, and then more oak, mustard greens, apple schnapps, and a bit of vanilla.
    • Finish
      Citrus and grappa.

A nice Glenfiddich with balls. The higher ABV certainly helped in that regard. Around 45 EUR, which is a fair deal.
    • Nose
The nose is quite interesting. Not as light as you would expect from Glenfiddich. In fact, it is a bit naughty. Loads of vanilla and woodspice precede the fruit. I get mostly apples and pears, but also some peach and milk chocolate and an unexpected but lovely trace of woodsmoke.
    • Taste
The arrival is very nice – good body – with its 51%. Loads of pears now, together with all kinds of spices from the wood. Ginger, pepper, bakery spices and cinnamon with a hint of vanilla and paprika powder. Nevertheless, it remains nicely soft and sweet.
    • Finish
The finish is the highlight of this malt. Medium long on peppered pears and some cinnamon. A trace of oak at the death. Fine.

Despite high alcohol content, beware of water!
    • Nose
Orange, apples, honey, raisins, melon, touch of pear and peach
    • Taste
Cinnamon, orange, toffee, currants, apples, melon, pear, peach, oak and light pepper.
    • Finish
Long, warm, orange, raisins, cinnamon and light pepper
