The nose is wonderful, good old classic malt.
However the palate and finish leave you with a sour taste.
    • Nose
      86 86
Malty with plenty of fruitiness, I'm getting green apples and some hints of pineapple. A little dust with added notes of citrus. Definitely has an air of "old whisky" about it.
    • Taste
      78 78
Oily palate, plenty of power not as flat as you'd expect from a 40%. First notes to arrive are that of bitter oak and a box of old oats and malt. Little orange peel and some lemony notes.
    • Finish
      70 70
A little sharp on the finish, , a big hint of bitterness and sour oak.

I can hardly understand an average rating of not even 78 points. I can already enjoy this whisky, especially on the nose, and today I compare it with a newer Glenfiddich 12 (WB134047).
This one shows a bit of the history of the whisky industry, because the higher proportion of (good) sherry casks is noticeable and the bottle maturation, which I believe in, has done the rest.
    • Nose
      87 87
A balanced Speysider profile with clear cream, caramel and vanilla notes. The grassy notes are much less pronounced than in the comparison Glenfiddich 12. The body is almost full and oily.
    • Taste
      85 85
      84.5
Here, too, rather thin, but significantly less woody and a little sweeter than the comparison whisky. Those were definitely better barrels 20 years ago.
Here for me again a clear difference to today's Glenfiddich 12, much less woody and grassy. Much more cream and caramel.
Still not spectacular overall. But already close to a whisky that you can also enjoy on the palate.
    • Finish
      84 84

The mouthfeel is oily, but the finish is short and slightly woody at the end.

indistinct nose, but it did not foreshadow what happened next ...
harsh prickly young grain taste, ok, you can drink it but you don't need it at all, there is no pleasure, it's a pity, this is clearly an unsuccessful batch, or even in 2002 the quality was not very good? sad ... maybe someone drinks with cola this drink will suit, but excuse me ...

Blind tasting. I did not even find the nose bad. Even if she is not spectacular. In the mouth but he then duly and after the departure I do not like it.
    • Nose
Relatively fresh and mild. Apples and pears. Vanilla crescents. Malt sweetness. Again and again, citrus fruits easily come through. Some oak shows up.
    • Taste
Also fairly mild and oily in the mouth. Unfortunately, not very intense. Again malt. Pear dish. Then it tingles something and citrus fruits come. It is getting drier.
    • Finish
Some citrus. Licorice. Kind of a bitterness that reminds me of the Grains in the Blended Scotch. Not strong, but I do not like the style.

80/100 as there is some lacking complexity on the taste portion and a light finish.
    • Nose
      Fruity with hints of floral
    • Taste
Apples, pears, moves again toward a floral note.
    • Finish
Short to medium lingering bursts of apple and a slight taste of ripe grapefruit.

"Glenfiddich Special Reserve is the definitive 12 year old single malt Scotch whisky.

Tasting notes: A fresh and fruity nose with a touch of pear. It has distinctive, well balanced taste with rich fruit flavours, subtle pine and a hint of peatiness.
