16 years in casks, 16 years in bottle.
Nose: Nice Lagavulin notes in the background, but partly masked by the sweet px sherry notes: mild peat, iodine, kippers, sweet sherry wood. (88 points)
Taste: The arrival is almost all sherry and black pepper woody notes. On the mid palate more sherry and quite a bit of sweetness, with the peaty and coastal notes playing 3rd violin rather than 2nd violin. Too much PX sherry for my taste. I think the classic peaty and coastal Lagavulin notes have been drowned in px sherry on this one. (78 p).
    Total score 82 points.

He needs more time to express himself than the 1991 lgv 4/495. Less immediate, less charming from the outset, it still deserves a stop there for a moment. Do it, and you will be amazed by its complexity, finesse and subtlety. Even note so.
    • Nose
Less charming than the 1991 lgv 4/495. If peat is still present, the citrus fruity of the latter loses much intensity in favor of rubbery notes (fishing boots, waxed). On the other hand, it is more medicinal, with a slight resinous touch. Good news: the bitter oranges end up pointing the tip of their zest after a little ventilation, with tobacco (raw cigar). Less charming then, but perhaps more complex than his successor.
    • Taste
Less powerful than the lgv 4/495. After a subtle chocolate attack it oscillates between peat, tobacco notes, liquorice, salt, a hint of orange, and always chocolate. The aromas are particularly well melted.
    • Finish
Long enough, on a very nice mixture of salt, chocolate and bitter orange.
