Whisky Reviews for North Port 1976 CA

  1. MaltMartin scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

One of the better North Port's I had. Despite it high ABV very drinkable with lots of sweet and juicy fruitiness.
    • Nose
Starts with flowery notes of geraniums and freesias followed with cut grass and hay. Later on hints of lime and peel zest. Orange-rind and stewed rhubarb. Also menthol and pine-wood. Touch of vanilla and honey at the background. Despite its biting alcohol there's still much flavor development in this whisky.
    • Taste
Spirity punch at first but quickly followed by tropical fruit notes of pineapple, kiwi and lemon. Pear drops and juicy peach as well. Spices of aniseed, caraway and cumin. Some fresh cedar wood. It's all quite creamy with a silky mouth-texture actually. Quite complex as well.
    • Finish
Long, warm and lingering. Bitter-sweetness of pink grapefruit. Gingery and a l little clove. Liquorice at the end.

Fruity nose, some flowers on the palate but not in a bad way, a very enjoyable dram.

  7. lincolnimp scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Good nose and a fresh, spicy palate with some nice white fruit notes coming in.
North Port is an acquired taste at the best of times but my first impression is a good one.

  8. Willie JJ scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

A nose to die for and the rest isn't too shabby either.
    • Nose
Geraniums, lawn clippings and new mown hay. Orange refresher sweets, pear drops, candied fruit and mixed peel. Faint hints of draff and pot ale alongside linseed oil, candle wax and pencil shavings. Astonishing complexity and worthy of nosing for hours.  The nose fades a little with water.
    • Taste
Much more cereal on the palate. Still floral and delicate, but the malt has more of a hand in it. Water releases barley sugar and fruit followed by spices with cardamom, cloves and cinammon.
    • Finish
Astringent at full strength and not very long. Much longer with a drop of water . Pencil shavings and peppercorns popping all over the palate.
