Bottler: Five Lions
Extension: Bourbon barrel
Region: Highlands, Scotland
Nose: Special. Fruity with enormous apple flavor on one side, cereals and spices on the other side. Warm oatmeal, malt sugar , apples, then cherries in semolina pudding, kiwi. Behind it, a barrage of dry wood smoke with freshly cut vanilla bean, cold ginger tea and the smell of cigar box.
Palate: Creamy, yet heavy, again with pronounced apple notes. Cloves, oak, and cigar smoke. In between plant-like aromas flash through: herbs, meadow flowers vegetable oil. Blood oranges and malt are also present.
Finish: Very long and lingering, the fruit goes back, but wood and spices are clear. Nutmeg, cloves, yeast dough in the fermenting vat, slightly sour. Bitter banana peels with a dash of maple syrup.
Conclusion: Excessively complex, but really recommendable. However, one should take some time.
84/100 points (tasted 2015)
