Strahtisla 1960, bottled 2014 with 53 years and 43%. An absolute dream in a glass. The absolute madness is the nosing. Incredibly complex, multi-layered and exciting. A real highlight. On the tongue it then continues with more oak, but the sweetness does not have a hopeless position compared to the load of spicy aromas. The finish is sensationally long, the taste experience is wonderful. Unfortunately, this taste experience also has its price. You have to spend at least 1,600 euros for this bottle. Is it worth it? Everyone has to decide for themselves. If you can afford it, get one. Who knows how often you can taste such a top whisky in your life? I liked the nosing best, so I got 94 points today (tendency to 95). A whisky for the TOP 3 in 2021. We'll see. Slaintè!

The Strahtisla 1960 is deeply dark in the nosing glass and already exudes a venerable sherry scent when pouring it. You can tell from the first smell that this is a very old whisky, very different from the modern sherry bombs. The Strathisla's sherry sweetness increases by the minute. Dark plums, blackberries, dates, raisins, cherries, dark chocolate, etc ... the complete sherry register once up and down brings a soulful grin on your face. Over time, however, the barrel comes through more and more with an uncanny load of aromas that is difficult to describe. Lots of oak, old wood, old leather, damp tobacco leaves, a touch of cloves and various spices. The barrel influence is not too intrusive for my taste. The sherry sweetness fights bravely against it, so that an indescribable impression prevails in the nose that you cannot experience every day. The 43% carry the aroma load very well, you could think that there would be more. A wonderful sherry profile in the old style, dignified, old, venerable and yet not old-fashioned and over-aged.

The nosing continues on the tongue, only that the spice is more clearly present now. Oak, wood, spices, Christmas cookies, sherry, sweetness, a true roller coaster ride of the elements. The alcohol is very well integrated, you could almost think that it was 46%. Saliva flow is massively stimulated. After some time around the mouth, the oak displaces the sherry sweetness in second place and shows itself with all its strength. Very nice, very interesting.

As expected, the finish is long and warm. The sweet sherry aromas dominate here initially. Over time, the oral cavity becomes drier and now the oak strikes again, increasingly tart and astringent. If you run your tongue along the cheeks, you can hear the sweetness of the sherry again. The mouthfeel seems to last forever. Wonderful, an absolute dream.

One of the best Strathisla I've had in my glass so far!

Extremely good in taste, wonderfully complex and the finish is outstanding and long!

too old and too over the top in the finish, way too much woodiness. Whatever they have done to ameliorate this by the combination of three casks is not enough for my personal preference.
    • Nose
      engine oil, cloves
    • Taste
      medicinal, cough syrup

Great nose, ultra-dry finish. Almost dry red wine... Bummer!
