This is a strikingly different drop, nothing with soft-washed modern sherry stuff. Fart-dry Oloroso meets a highlander with cojones!
    1 point extra for originality.
    • Nose
      86 86
Animal-like-spicy-delicious on the nose, with dried figs and spices and herbs between lovage and turmeric, with an umami hug that looks considerably older.
    • Taste
      89 89
Fat-oily in the mouth, that's awesome! Meat broth, but with a lot of beeswax, and oriental spices again. Incredibly lining the mouth.
Walnut is the defining element. Great palate.
    • Finish
      85 85
The spices and walnuts continue in the relatively dry finish, which later shows a relatively pronounced vegetable bitterness.

One of the best tomatins in my glass so far. The nose smells like sticking a steak in melted butter, plus a bunch of butterscotch. Some sulfur in the mouth. Departure medium long

Exciting tomato with an attached sherry profile. For me, a solid ex-Bourbon case with a subtle sherry finish that looks good without wanting to take control. The nose has unimagined depth. The alcohol content fits here very well. Depending on how you feel and how you feel on the day, the sharpness of pepper on the palate could be overwhelming. Water can help here and also offers the opportunity to look at the whisky from a different perspective - December 25th, 2021
    • Nose
      89 89
Dry sherry, vermouth, caramelized nuts, walnut, nutmeg, in the background liquid chocolate, caramel, toffee, black pepper, ripe banana, chocolate banana, apricot, orange oil, strawberry jelly

With water it unfolds sour-fruity notes with a grassy-tart menthol note
    • Taste
      88 88
Briefly sweet, then immediately dry and astringent, sherry nuances, roasted aromas, a good portion of hot pepper spreads in the mouth, walnut, orange zest

The pepper spiciness is tamed with water and it develops a syrupy sweetness
    • Finish
      87 87
Long, fruity, orange, the fruit note becomes more artificial towards the end and sticky wine gum remains

I couldn't say that the malt flashed me, but it always surprised me! Positive in terms of independence.

In the end it is a bit too hot for me on its own, but it definitely invites you to discover.
The Oloroso note is heavily present, which one would not have expected. Cardboard sweet and sticky ...

I really like the walnut note on the finish.

One of the most unusual malts I had so far, reminds me somehow of the Alambic Irish Diamonds batch 3. #chestnut #walnut

Beautiful, versatile malt. Rather dark fruity, juicy, slightly sweet with intense nut flavors, cinnamon and gingerbread. Appears a bit musty, slightly earthy before it reveals a slight freshness kick of mint. Is good to drink. However, it does need some water to cushion the spiciness and heat.

Wow I think it's really, really tasty. Pleasant seasoning, nutmeg. A bag of "student food".

The walnuts don't want to disappear anymore. Nice.

    • Nose
First, a slight adhesive note, but quickly, then herbs, marjoram, beef broth, honey and ginger sweets
    • Taste
peppery onion with honey, again marjoram and beef broth with an intense salty note
    • Finish
      medium but very intense

Alcohol, alcohol, terrible. Overlay everything and break it up too. Actually, an interesting whisky with rough edges, if not for this very disturbing alcohol, which is extremely badly involved. There are only mini-leaks, Too much of everything. We will not become friends.
    • Nose
Herbal cream cheese, bread dough, the alcohol nibbles vigorously in the nose, sherry, some dried fruit and after some time, the cowshed is the honor
    • Taste
clear sherry, here again the cowshade note, slightly fermented, a creamy sweetness marks the transition to the finish. The alcohol is always present.
    • Finish
Fast away, only the Kuhstallnote but comes again and again.

I do not think bad, but also does not tear me off the stool. Get 85 points from me like the Eddy. I like the nose and the finish.
Notes from an online chat tasting.
    • Nose
Tomato: A completely different nose, much fresher. Funny, the alcohol is there, but does not bother me at all. I'm not getting it out of my nose, it's always changing. I think so good! Heated, the nose comes to rest, nutmeg, candied fruits and some cellar. [after the first sip] In the nose now also sherry.
    • Taste
Deft sharpness in the mouth, not unpleasant, clearly sherry, some oak, also slightly acid. The second sip, of course, sweeter, but also sharper.
    • Finish
Menthol is added in the finish. After the second sip now also herbs. Not overly long.

  18. Archer scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

With the rich selection of spices on the nose and on the palate an exciting malt.
    • Nose
This is spice rack in the nose. Curry, cumin, cardamom, black pepper. Walnut comes with some water. Fresh leather and fine pipe tobacco. Rather an earthy, heavy nose. When swirled, the spices dilute. Becomes a little lighter, airier.
    • Taste
In the beginning, the spice rack of the nose is first reflected on the tongue. Curry and cardamom remain, also cumin / cumin is still there. Sherry lies down over it, presented on an oak tray. Pretty sharp at the beginning, but that settles after a while.
    • Finish
      Medium long, it stays spicy.

    • Nose
      exciting nose

or if she is a bit exhausting
      be put there
      yes, spice rack is good
You open a large can with spices, it smells of everything, typical smell of spice doses, if everything is so close to each other, to some pineapple juice
dry tea leaves, nutmeg, grated coconut
      Walnut and your bitterness
      the tart sweet Oloroso
    • Taste
a little bit sharp when starting
then Oloroso diluted in soft liquor is in the mouth
      pleasant taste
on the palate, the spice rack and dusty cocoa, barrel
    • Finish
      medium
dark spicy, barrel aromas, slightly bitter, with roasted apple juice .. good finish

  21. Noface83 scored this whisky 90 points Specialist

Nose: malty, nutty dry Oloroso notes, hot spices (towards nutmeg, cardamom and pepper), fresh lemon and light alcohol. After the first sip, the nose opens and the Oloroso gets through stronger.

Taste: Heavy onset, malty sweetness, strong dry sherry - as if you really would like to drink an Oloroso - wow! Walnut and thickened grape juice with light oak (milk chocolate). I like that HUGE! What a surprise after the rather average nose. This grandiose taste stays in the mouth for a long time. Conclusion: Is this still a whisky or just a high-percentage sherry. Should others argue about it - I prefer to enjoy it in peace!

Tasty, nothing for soft sausages, the walnut very much.
    • Nose
very intense nutty-spicy, nutmeg, cardamom, subtle fruitiness, orange, peach, strawberry jam
    • Taste
nutty-bitter-sweet, the sharpness keeps in the frame for the alcohol strength, walnut, maple syrup, cocoa, again nutmeg, cloves
    • Finish
long and intense, walnut, dark chocolate
