Today, four cask strength SMWS Mannochmore’s ‘head to head’:

    64.56 - 64.58 - 64.61 - 64.67
N: Creamed coconut and caramel, coconut husks, vanillas & limes with an aged tequila woodiness and some leathery maltiness. The wood seems far maturer or at least more controlled in comparison to cask 64.56 WB, another first fill 13yo.
T: Works neat at first, but soon gets too large. It works just fine with water however. The maltiness is equal to the fruits with a moderately chewy, sugary mouthful. Theres plenty of hot black pepper sprinkles from the cask here at the apex.
F: Candied notes, vanillas, more caramel, soft toffee, single cream and white butter with a little sugar, butterscotch and aniseed. There are more vanilla and cashew nut butters at the last.
C: Rather controlled dram for a first fill with more cooperation between it and the spirit than the 64.56. The thorn is at the top end of the palate, but again - this cask should reap more rewards next time around.

    Scores a C-

    SMWS Tasting Notes
    Colour: True gold
    Flavour: Juicy, oak & vanilla

Bold oak displayed intense vanilla notes, Fry’s mint creams
and a chalky marshmallow texture. Mint tea gave way to ripe soft fruits and the
heavy sweetness of dates and raisins. The nose developed with coconut shavings,
custard creams and cake mix. To taste it was mouth wateringly sweet and delicious,
with Juicy Fruit gum, brown sugar cookies and lychees, but also a wicked spice
(white pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg). With water the Devil tempted with treacle
sponge and butterscotch whilst the Angel whispered of pineapple, poached pears,
vanilla pods and a refreshing lime basil zing. A compelling dichotomy.

Drinking Tips: An epic tale unfolds, given time.
